Beach 130 Children Honored

Beach 130 Children Honored

To call the World Trade Center disaster horrendous would be a colossal understatement. The reverberations of this horrific event were felt all through this community. Certainly not immune from the effects were the youths of our neighborhood.

One such group of youngsters are the children of Beach 130 Street. Rather than simply sitting idle in the midst of such a tragedy, these enterprising kids banded together in the interest of all those affected by the disaster. Since 2001, the group has organized a communal bake sale on behalf of the World Trade Center Tribute Park on 116 Street donating a total of $2,100 in proceeds for this park.

During the course of the bake sale, the City Councilman Joseph Addabbo, Chairperson for the Parks and Recreation Committee, stopped by to patronize the sale. Mr. Addabbo was so impressed by their hard work and community-minded spirit of these little entrepreneurs, he invited them all to his office for a light breakfast and award ceremony in appreciation for all their fund-raising efforts and personally thanked them for their tireless efforts in working together and raising money for the good of their community.

Mr. Addabbo made these children feel so very special.
