Helen Marie Barclay


Famed Needlepoint Artists

Helen Marie Barclay, a resident of Bedminster, New Jersey, formerly of Belle Harbor, died on December 20, 2002.

Helen was a nationally recognized needlepoint artists and a communicant of St. Elizabeth's Church in Far Hills, New Jersey. She also was a member of the New Jersey Needlepoint Guild.

She is survived by her husband, Robert W; son, Robert Francis Barclay; four daughters, Michelle Barclay, Linda Zambelli, Patricia Farrell and Allison Raffalo; brother, James Francis McDonald; sister, Marilyn McDonald; and six grandchildren.

Interment under the direction of the Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home, Inc. was held at Holy Cross Cemetery in Basking Ridge, New Jersey.

Harold F. Brady
Dearly Missed

Harold F. Brady, born in the Bronx, was a 60-year resident of Rockaway Beach who passed away on December 19, 2002.

Harold worshipped at St. Francis de Sales and was well known in the Rockaway community.

He is survived by his sons, Peter, Stephen, Gerard and Charles Brady; daughters, Mary and Jane E. Brady; sister, Jane McIntee; and six grandchildren.

Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor, Inc. was held at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Ella Cannon
Homemaker

Ella Cannon (nee Curran), born in Drumshambo (the county of Leitrim in Ireland), died on December 19, 2002.

Ella, who spent most her life as a homemaker, came to the United States in 1925 and settled in Manhattan. She later relocated to the Rockaways, where she lived for many years. She was a resident of Cranston, New Jersey at the time of her death.

She is preceded in death by her husband, John J. Cannon; and son, John P. Cannon.

She is survived by her son, Kevin Cannon; sister, Bridie Bothwell; and two grandchildren.

Interment under the direction of the Dooley Funeral Home was held at St. Charles Cemetery in Long Island.

James B. Cook
Laborer

James B. Cook, born in Brooklyn, was a long time resident of Rockaway before relocating to Inverness, Florida. He died on December 20, 2002.

James was employed as a laborer in the construction industry. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy.

He is preceded in death by his brothers, Bob, Edward, Frank, Thomas and William Cook.

He is survived by his brothers, John and Joseph Cook; and sister, Agnes Nott.

Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor, Inc. was held at Calverton National Cemetery.

Ardenia N.L. Creasy
Dearly Missed

Ardenia Nellie Louise Creasy, born in Roanoke, Virginia died on November 18, 2002.

Ardenia spent her life as a homemaker and was a member of the First Calvary Baptist Church, where she served as President of the Pastor's Aide Club. She also belonged to the Willing and Workers Club.

She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Ann Keeling; four grandchildren, Shawn, Shiron, Sandra and Cheryl; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.

Interment under the direction of Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home, Inc. was held at Plainlawn Cemetery.

Jerome M. Dowling
Retired NYPD Detective

Jerome Michael Dowling, born in Manhattan, was a Rockaway Park resident who died on December 19, 2002.

Jerome worshipped at St. Camillus Church and worked as a detective with the New York City Police Department until his retirement. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States military.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Dowling; sons, Mark, Kurt and Bart; step-son, Albert Davis; daughter, Lisa; brothers, Edwin J. and John; and sister, Rosemary Timmins.

Ursula C. Lancaster
Housewife

Ursula Celestina Lancaster, born in Betervewagting, Guyana died on December 1, 2002.

Ursula spent the majority of her taking care of her family and home.

She is preceded in death by her brothers, Robert and Herman; and sister, Doris.

She is survived by her husband, William; children, Clement, Cicley, Jocelyn, Carl, Neville, Desiree and Hazel; 12 stepchildren; 22 grandchildren; and a host of other family members.

Interment under the direction of Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home, Inc. was held at St. Mary the Virgin Anglican Cemetery in Betervewagting, Guyana.

Margaret A. W. Louis
Counselor

Margaret Ann Washington Louis, born in Greenville, South Carolina died on November 25, 2002.

Margaret was employed as a counselor for many years.

She is preceded in death by her daughter, Theresa Lewis; sons, Archie Lee Lewis Jr. and Tamacus Darnell Lewis.

She is survived by her husband, Archie Lee Lewis Sr; daughters, Sharon and Maureen Lewis, and Tonja Lewis Miller; sisters, Linda Harper, Patricia Small. Shawn Harper, Virginia Memminger and Yvonne Harris; brothers, Larry, Eddie Jr., Stanley and Troy Harper; and a host of other family members and friends.

Interment under the direction of Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home, Inc. was held at Nassau Knolle Cemetery.

Sallie Louise Rodgers
Nurse's Aide

Sallie Louise Rodgers, born in Arlington, Tennessee passed away on December 2, 2002.

Sallie worked as a Nurse's Aide and was a member of the Seaside and Arverne Congregations of Jehovah's Witnesses.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda; sons, James, Jesse, Curtis and Douglas; brothers, James, Bobby Boone and Free Lee Boone; and many other family members and friends.

Interment under the direction of Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home, Inc. was held at Rockville Cemetery.

Dominick Santamaria
Knight s of Columbus
(Rockaway Council)

Dominick Santamaria, a 43-year resident of Belle Harbor, coming from Brooklyn, died on December 21, 2002.

Dominick worshipped at St. Francis de Sales Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus' Rockaway Council. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; son, Dominick J.; daughter, Michele Taylor; sister, Susan Monturo; and brother, Anthony.

Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor, Inc. was held at St. Charles Cemetery.

Fred J. Vasselman
Proprietor

Fred J. Vasselman, born in Manhattan, was a life long resident of Rockaway Park and the owner of Monis Liquor Store. He died on December 21, 2002.

Fred worshipped at St. Rose of Lima and was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Married Men's Club. He was an usher at St. Rose of Lima.

He is survived by his wife, Geraldine; daughter, Patricia Boggiano; son, Fred; eight grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.

Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor, Inc. was held at Greenfield Cemetery.
