By Gary G. Toms The nervous students were called up two at a time for testing.
On Saturday, December 21, students at the World Champions Karate Center took part in a testing session that determined whether or not they would be promoted to the next level of their martial arts training. Sensei (teacher) Bruce Hodes, along with two of his co-instructors, conducted the proceedings.
The students, who ranged from white belts to green belts, were all excited about the possibility of being awarded new ranking.
"I'm a little nervous, but my parents are here, so I'm going to be okay," said one 7-year old who hails from Rockaway Park.
"I'm going to pass this test and honor my dojo (school)," she continued. As they stood before their Sensei, the students were asked several questions as part of their test.
A ceremony was held after testing was completed, and the students were presented with their new belts as many elated parents looked on. All of the students that were tested passed with flying colors.
"All of you have shown that you mastered a certain level of training. You all did an outstanding job today, and you and your parents should be very proud," said Sensei Hodes.
The World Champions Karate Center is located at 112-20 Beach Channel Drive in Rockaway Park.
