Celebration: An Opportunity to Socialize with Friends

During the month of December, I have had many wonderful opportunities to participate in Holiday celebrations. My mother, Dr. Geraldine D. Chapey, my husband, Eugene Pasternak and I have enjoyed seeing everyone.

On Sunday, we went to the Irish Christmas Show at St. Rose of Lima featuring Noel Ginnity with special guest Andy Cooney. It also featured soprano, Emer Hartnett; Musical Director, Pat Marnana; Multi Instrumantalist Matt Fisher and world class Irish dancing by Stuart O'Connor and Catherine Watson. The performance was a sell out. It was obvious that everyone was enjoying it because one could hear a pin drop in the audience. Kudos to Mike and Betty Keller, Peggy and Pat McGrath and Mike McCarthy for chairing this outstanding event.

Liz Sulik, the Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce, chaired a wonderful party at the Beach Club. The Chamber events bring people together. It is an opportunity to exchange business cards. Shopping and doing business locally makes sense from an economical and convenience perspective. Be sure to frequent our local merchants.

Barbara Morris, from the West End Realty, hosted another great party again this year. Every year Barbara treats the community to a very festive gathering. We always look forward to going to Barbara's office to her annual celebration. It seems that the year is getting shorter or going by quicker.

Andrew and Pamela Bauman hosted a very significant event at the Walter Ward School in Lindenwood. They celebrated with a holiday party for the children and families who are part of New York Families for Autistic Children. Interns from St. Johns University helped with the day. Pamela and Andrew Bauman and Pamela's mother Ruth work all year long to provide meaningful and valuable services to autistic children and their families. They provide workshops, seminars and informative speakers from around the country to address the needs of this population. Pamela, Andrew and Ruth are three people who really made a difference.

At this holiday season when we are in a spirit of giving - this would be an excellent organization to send a donation. All of your money goes directly to serving children with special needs. Their address is 95-16 Pitkin Avenue in Ozone Park, New York 11417. The phone number is (718) 641-3441 or 5317. The fax number is (718) 641-4452. They can also be reached on line at www.NYFAC.org. They serve children in all of Queens.

Kudos to Frances Abbracciamento for arranging a trip to see the sights in New York City. Frances Abbracciamento is the Travel Director for the Trinity Senior Services Van Program in Breezy Point. Frances has a fantastic resume. She was honored by the United Nations. She served as the Commissioner of Human Rights for New York.  She was honored as the Grand Marshall of the Columbus Day Parade in Manhattan. She has been honored by Governors, Mayors, Congress people and Borough Presidents for her fantastic contributions to our nation, state and city. This year Frances Abbracciamento is the Honorary Grand Marshall of our James Conway Sullivan Memorial Queens St. Patrick's Day Parade.

Mike and Chris Benn hosted a wonderful holiday party at the Beach Club for the James Conway Sullivan Memorial Queens St. Patrick's Day Parade and Cultural Committee. They are such a gracious host and hostess. In addition to all the fantastic work that Mike Benn does for the Parade he also hosts a weekly show on QPTV. It airs at 5:30 p.m. on Mondays or if you miss a show you can click on to GAELTV.com and catch the latest happenings.

Be sure to buy your tickets early for two events sponsored by the James Conway Sullivan Memorial Queens St. Patrick's Day Parade:  (1) on January 19, 2003 we will have our Hearts and Shamrock Dance at St. Camillus Hall from 4 to 8 p.m. (2) tickets are available for the Dinner Dance at Antun's on February 16th. Tickets are $65. Make reservations early. Call (718) 474-2700 for tickets.
