Chamber’s New Team: Bear, Book

Those looking for a last-minute purchase for the holidays have a premier choice in the brand new Rockaway Book and Bear Collection.

"Braving The Waves" author Kevin Boyle is joining with Rockaway-based NYC Message Bears’ to raise funds for the Rockaway Partnership’s (The Chamber’s not-for-profit corporation) "Tribute Park" and the Graybeards community action group.

Boyle’s book, "Braving The Waves" is a clean, direct, and powerful account of the meaning of the events on and after September 11th and November 12th 2001, as portrayed through the author’s description of the true voices of his friends and neighbors in this tight-knit Rockaway community. Boyle’s book continues to sell out at all locations it has been placed around town.

The "Rockaway Rises" Message Bear is 15" tall, and available in either honey brown or white. The bear’s sweater is knitted in the NYC Message Bears’ Mill on Beach 101st Street and will be embossed on the front with "Rockaway Rises", and with "I’ve Got Sand in My Paws" on the back. The sweaters will be available in white, powder blue, and red for the Christmas holiday season.

Individual prices for "Braving the Waves" and "NYC Message Bears" are $22 and $40 respectively. However, this Commemorative Book (which will be autographed by Boyle) and Bear Collection will be available only for a limited time for the combined price of $59.95. Each item is also available separately. Orders are now being taken on behalf of the Rockaway Partnership and the Graybeards Organization at the office of the Chamber of Commerce of the Rockaways at 718-634-1300 and at NYC Message Bears, 718-634-1004, extension 104. Orders will be available for pick-up or can be shipped (for an additional $5 shipping charge), on a first come, first served basis. All donations are tax deductible. Checks should be made to the Rockaway Partnership, a 501c3 corporation. Major credit cards are also accepted.

The Commemorative Collection will be displayed throughout the community beginning next week. Look for next week’s full-page ad in The Wave. For additional information and questions about this fund raising project, please call the Chamber of Commerce office.
