Hostage Drama In Hammels

By Gary G. Toms

By Gary G. Toms

On Tuesday, December 10, members of the NYPD’s Hostage Negotiation Team, 100 Precinct officers, and Emergency Services Units responded to a report of a 14-year girl being held hostage at 84-18 Rockaway Beach Boulevard in the Hammels Housing Development.

Armed with rifles, shields, nine-millimeter pistols, and bulletproof vests, the officers entered the building and headed to the apartment where the girl was allegedly being held captive. The Wave contacted the Deputy Commissioner for Public Information (DCPI) to obtain details about the case, but calls were not returned by the time we went to press.

The situation, which lasted a total of 45 minutes, appeared to have ended without incident, as members of the tactical units emerged from the building unharmed. Detectives and officers at the scene could not provide any information about the young girl or the suspect(s) that may have been involved in the incident.
