Special Thanks For Outstanding BCAC Cheerleaders

By Margaret Wagner

The Broad Channel Athletic Club Shamrock Cheerleaders traveled to Farmingdale College in a chartered bus on Sunday Nov. 17 2002 to compete in the Nassau Suffolk Cheerleading Association. The BCAC squad consists of:  Stephanie Wagner, Lisa Carroll, Kimberly Cassidy, Jill & Jodi Guttieri, Adriene Guttieri, Kathleen Madden, Michelle Martin, Christina Ruggerigo, Dorothy Waldheim, and Blair Orgera. Jennifer Badamo coached the team and Jennifer’s mom, Donna Badamo was the assistant coach Team coordinators were Naomi Steiz, Kathy Holloway and Margaret Wagner.

The team competed against Levittown, Lindenhurst and Farmingdale.  The senior squads are 14-year-old division. Since Broad Channel is just getting our teams back into competition we had girls from the age of 10 thru 14. The BC Cheerleaders are looking forward to placing more girls into competition next year. The competition has separate divisions for the 7's, 8's, 9's, 10's, 11's, 12's, 13's and 14's. Hopefully next year we can add more girls and coaches to our organization.

As the BCAC Girls went on to the mat the BCAC Fans went wild.  Running in front of the entire crowd was Lucky the Leprechan, formally know as Meatball and formally known as Justin Guttieri. He had the fans on their feet for our girls!!!  The BCAC cheerleaders went into their routine with such spirit, their cheers were loud and clear. Their routine was great, but once again it’s their dance that takes the crowd by surprise.  These BCAC girls can move!!!!

Unfortunately, our squad is at a big disadvantage when it comes to stunts.  Our girls have no gym.  The BCAC girls have been seen on the field, in the tennis courts, in JH 180, in the American Legion. They have been practicing anywhere and everywhere. Even without a gym our girls performed all the required stunts.  It was difficult but they pulled it off and looked terrific!!!!  Our girls placed 4th by only a small margin. The Team Spirit Award went to Christina Ruggerio. Christina was very deserving of this award. She always knew her routine, was helpful to others, always RESPECTFUL! and had a great cheerleader personality!!

We would like to thank all our BROAD CHANNEL FANS who attended this competition!!! As the girls were on the mat, they could hear all of you cheering them on!!!  Thank you

to Bobby & Donna Badamo for use of their home, breakfast and especially the roses!!!!  Also, thanks to the junior coaches Trisha Marshall and Michelle Kenny and junior cheerleaders for attending. A Special thanks to head coach Jen Badamo for all her hard work and volunteering her time to make us the best cheerleaders we can be!!!!!!!
