Queens Female Flag All Stars Finish Inaugural Season

Queens Female Flag All Stars Finish Inaugural Season

The inaugural season has come to a close for the Queens Female Flag Football All Stars at the 2002 PAL Flag Football League Championships on Saturday, November 30th, 2002 at Manhattan’s Riverbank State Park. Defeated by the Manhattan All Stars, the Queens All Star Female Flag Football team came away with the Queens Borough Championship Trophy and second place in New York City.

The All Stars gave a valiant effort on a cold day, falling just short of its first City title. This was the first season for Female Flag Football in the Rockaways thanks to the joint support of the Rockaway Sports Association and the Police Athletic League. Officer Freddy Brooks of the PAL was on hand to witness the final game of the season. He noted, "Flag football has come a long way in the past few years. This is the largest turnout for this event so far. It’s a good thing to see." The All Star Team consisted of student athletes from Beach Channel and John Adams High Schools.

Now that the season has ended, the Rockaway Sports Association will turn its attention to Lacrosse and Rockaway’s own Urban Patriots—formerly known as the Far Rock Huskers. Instructional Lacrosse sessions for boys between the ages of 5 and 15 will be held at Far Rockaway High School on Saturdays and at Beach Channel High School on Sundays from 10:00am to 1:00pm.
