P.T.A. President Seeks Help For Holiday Cheer

The P.T.A. President for P.S. 256Q, Norma P. Hessic, wants your help to brighten this holiday!

P.S. 256Q is a Special Education Unit of the NYC Board of Education, which serves students with significant hardship learning and/or emotional difficulties that precludes them from attending regular schools.

They are looking for assistance from local businesses in order to help brighten the lives of these children, particularly during the holiday season.

Located in, and serving the Rockaway community, P.S. 256Q is comprised of several sites. The following sites are in need of help in order to brighten the students’ holiday: P.S. 43, Middle School, serving 42 students, grades 5-8 (11-14 years old); and P.S. 43, serving 120 students, grades K-7 (5-13 years old). Both sites are located at 160 Beach 29 Street in Far Rockaway.

The majority of these students come from lower socioeconomic households, making it difficult for their families to provide beyond the necessities. They are hoping that you could help brighten their lives by donating educational toys, books, scarves, gloves, hats. All items should be new. Money will also be accepted in order to purchase additional gifts.

If you are able to donate some of the items listed above, pick up can be arranged, or you may bring your contributions to Ms. Tish Walsh, Special Events Coordinator at P.S. 256Q @ P.S. 43, at 160 Beach 29 Street, Far Rockaway, NY 11691.

In order to distribute the gifts to the children at the different schools sites, it is important that all donations are received by December 17. A party is planned for the children on December 19.

If you are interested in helping to bring joy to these very special children, please contact Norma P. Hessic at 718-634-8726 or 718-472-3291.
