On The Beach… With Beverly Baxter
On The Beach... With Beverly Baxter
On behalf of the Sullivan Family, I'd like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all those who attended the special Memorial Mass for James Conway Sullivan on Monday December 2.
The much-revered Monsignor Martin Geraghty at Saint Frances de Sales Church eloquently gave the Mass of remembrance. Monsignor memorialized Jimmy as a leader of the Irish community who helped so many and gave so much to the town he loved so well. With his beloved parade, he gave the community its biggest and most well attended event; and perhaps most importantly, to Jimmy, it is a day when the Irish can proudly exude their pride in their heritage. Monsignor Geraghty remarked that when he thinks of Jimmy, there is one quality that comes most to mind, and that was Jimmy's spirit of hospitality. That spirit of Failte, of welcome and inclusiveness is a characteristic that the Irish are most noted for. Jimmy wore this spirit of Faite well and he lived it every day of his life.
Although he was not "perfect", his life was one of an example of redemption, of striving to triumph over fierce adversities. To me, he was about as "perfect" as a person can get. He had such a keen understanding of and compassion for the human condition; as well as a sense of patience and grace with those who at times sought his demise. He truly lived the spirit of the Claddagh and gave to those whom he loved his constant friendship, loyalty, and love. There are great people who walk among us in the world; but often their lives are one of mediocrity...and then there are men like James Conway Sullivan who come around to grace our world with their presence even for only too brief of a time. Rest in Peace, dear friend.

***If you are still getting your holiday shopping list together, you might want to consider a new computer or accessories that you will surely find at Dominick's Computer Store inside Robert's 115 Street Hardware. They are expanding their inventory of many different kind of computers and you will find something for someone on your list.
***Congratulations to Steven and Kenny Good on their new and outstanding catering facilities at The Beach Club. If you still haven't booked your holiday party, you will definitely want to host it at The Beach Club!
***Happy Birthday wishes this week to another parade committee member D. Brian Heffernan.
***I won't tell you her age and I will defy you to even guess....but Dr. Kathleen Sharkey wears it soooo well! Happy Birthday, Kathleen!

She leaves behind a family of whom she was most proud: Daughters Debra Pacheco and Darlene Clampitt, their husbands Tony and Arthur; her son John White; and many beautiful grandchildren whom she adored. She will be missed.
See you....On the Beach!
