RAA members Anthony Padovano and Eugene Zanis have recently been elected president and vice president, respectively, of the Audubon Artists, Inc., NY, a not-for-profit arts exhibition society founded in 1942 that displays the work of both members and non-members. The prestigious Salmagundi Club in Manhattan is the host gallery to the Audubon Artists. Padovano and Zanis, who are also members of the Salmagundi, take office in January. You may visit the website of the Audubon Artists at www.audubonartists.org.
The next general meeting of RAA takes place on Monday, December 9 at 7:30 p.m. at building T-149 in Fort Tilden. The meeting will include elections for officers and board members and RAA's annual holiday party. If you wish, participate in the "grab bag." Bring a "gift" for which you no longer have use but are sure others will adore or which you never liked but are positive someone else will see the beauty in. (Pardon me for ending a sentence with a preposition.)
Reminder: There are just two more weekends left to see "The Russians Are Here" at sTudio 6 Gallery, Fort Tilden. This splendid exhibition runs through December 8. Come see what The Daily News, The New York Times, Newsday, The Times Ledger and The Wave have all written about. Gallery hours are Saturday 12-5 p.m. and Sunday 1-4 p.m.
The kidsmART after-school program at MS 180 begins Tuesday, December 3 and will run through April 16. The program runs Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3:15 p.m. - 6 p.m. Registration is required. Please call the RAA office for an application. There is a $25 registration fee per family.
A year and more have passed since the tragic events of 2001. They say, "Time heals." But each day some amount of salt is poured over our wounds and fear and apprehension continue to be constant companions. Our search for answers yields more questions. I am unsure of what the answers are. However, for me, one thing is crystal clear. Instead of giving in to despair, it is ever more important, in this season, to give thanks for what we have; to celebrate the capacity for peace and courage in each of us; and most especially to hold, ever so close, those who are dearest to our hearts.
Rockaway Artists Alliance wishes you a Happy Thanksgiving filled with the bounty of love and peace.
