YMCA Expands Lacrosse Program To Rockaway

The Cross Island YMCA in Bellerose, Queens, believes that Every Kid Deserves a Y. Community outreach and expanding YMCA programs to the Rockaways is part of the Cross Island Y’s goal to reach more kids.

Part of the Y’s outreach includes a new Instructional Lacrosse Clinic to be held on Saturday’s at Far Rockaway High School and Sunday’s at Beach Channel High School from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. The clinic is open to both boys and girls ages 15 and under. Lacrosse is a rare and exciting sport in New York City as it can provide scholarship opportunities to high schools and colleges.

The fee for the Lacrosse Clinic is $95.00 for each ten-week session and will include quality programming by head Coach Greg Carter. The clinic also includes guest speakers from local colleges and universities that have competitive lacrosse programs; trips to watch these teams compete; and indoor classroom game strategies and teaching. T-shirts will also be provided. In accordance with the Take the Field program, the children will be playing on newly renovated fields that enhance safety as well as aesthetics.

All participants must register at the Cross Island YMCA located on 238-10 Hillside Avenue, Bellerose, NY 11426 starting December 1st. The clinic will begin on Saturday, December 14th at Far Rockaway High School. For more information call Sulekha Modi, Sports Director at (718) 479-0505 Ext. 138.
