Rockaway Rugby Fisheads Upcoming Social Events

Rockaway Rugby Fisheads Upcoming Social Events

After a successful fall campaign and an resurgence in membership, the Rockaway RFC is now in the midst of rounding out their winter social calendar. As everyone, young and old, is aware, Rockaway Rugby is an extremely diverse and entertaining group. Many in our neighborhood standby and eagerly await the announcements of Fishead fraternal events.

As Rugby board member and current team social secretary Tyrone Sperling has stated, "Any organization that boasts the likes of a Tom Leonard and Arthur"Ooch" Boyland, has got to be a fun loving group."
Rugby Christmas Party:

Rockaways annual Christmas Party will be held on Sunday DEC 15th at 12noon at the Rugby Clubhouse. All are welcome to attend. Please be advised that you should bring a wrapped gift no more that $20 in cost for any child that you bring. Santa Ooch will be in attendance and will be pulling gifts from his bag as well as lint from his bellybutton. If you are coming childless, please bring an unwrapped gift to be donated to the Claddagh Inn. The Fisheads will be making a delivery of gifts for under privlidged children to the Claddagh Inn.

Santa Ooch will be accompanied again by his little helper, Kermit the Elf. There will be Eggnog and other refreshments for the adults; and a fine display of food including delicious condiments such as mustard, brought by team caterer Rob Omex. Mike the Russian will gather the children and tell great stories of Russian folklore. George Johnson will pose (in famous hands on hips stance) with both kids and adults. Kevin Boyle will be handing out copies of his new book, and their will be much rejoicing for all. You need not be a member to attend. All friends of the Fisheads are welcome.
Rockaway Rugby AGM:

The annual General Meeting will take place on Sat DEC 28th. at 1pm. All elections for officers will be held. The club will also be reviewing the past season as well as planning for 2003. All club members are urged to attend. This is your opportunity to offer your suggestions and/or vent your frustrations. The Fisheads are asking all rugby alumni to attend. Any former players or club supporters who would like to re-involve themselves with the Fisheads are encouraged to do so. A strong alumni means a strong team.

Rugby 12th Night Dinner:

For the first time in years the Fisheads are planning a 12th night of Christmas awards celebration. For years this was a huge annual event in the rugby community. Club members and friends gathered to acknowledge the accomplishments of players and administrators who dedicated their time and energy to the team. The club will soon be approaching their 30th year of existence, and a proper awards ceremony is in order. The date will be Friday Jan 10th. Time and venue will be announced shortly.

Rugger Pluggers:

Three Cheers to the Rockaway RFC on a successful and winning season in the Met NY RFU. Great fun was had by all.

The Fisheads would like to thank late night janitors Trev and Chris for keeping the place tidy. Perhaps professional custodial engineer A. Ooch Boyland could tutor on the art of rewarding oneself with product.

Fisheads Wanye Fox, Jerry Hunt, Bob Johnson, Jimmy Egan, Mikey Geraghty, Keith Serper, Barry Cowhead, Tom McGinn, and Bernie and Erik Haag embarked on a trip to London this past weekend to watch England take on the All Blacks of New Zealand. All had a great time as England narrowly escaped with a victory. A Jovial Wayne Fox spent the post match evening glowing with national pride. As the night progressed, a now belligerent Fox badgered the opposing teams fans; mocking them repeatedly and proving to all that he is indeed English.

The Fisheads would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to veteran club members Matt Guiliano, Kyle Reeves, and Steve Benjamin for their recent contributions to the club.
