Ex-Resident On Flight 587

Dear Editor;

Since the anniversary of the plane disaster happened almost a year ago in Belle Harbor, I am enclosing in this letter a copy of a letter I sent to our local paper, The Miami Herald.

I would like very much if you would publish this letter as my way of saying thank you to all the people that helped that day not too far from where I used to live in Belle Harbor. I still have a warm spot for Belle Harbor - and even though I am now living in Hallandale Beach, Florida. I have come across many people here that came from the Rockaways and surrounding areas.

I would also like for you to bill me for a yearly subscription to The Wave.

Thank you for your consideration in this matter.

Airplane Tragedy Hits home in Belle Harbor, Queens

How do I write about a tragedy in the community where I was raised and lived for many years?

Even though I live in Florida, I always have considered Belle Harbor, in Queens, N.Y., my home, I lived on Beach 135 Street, across from P.S. 114.

I remember all the good times of growing up there, going to school and, of course, being active in my community where everyone knew everyone else either by riding the buses, going to church or to temple, meeting on the streets or shopping.

How does one thank all the firefighters, police and rescue workers for their help after the recent plane crash there? How many times did I walk down to 116 Street and stop at Beach 129 Street to go shopping or visit with friends? I was very active in many fund-raising activities in Belle Harbor, and I certainly wish that I could do something here to help the people in my favorite community.
