The 16th Annual City Meals on Wheels Power Lunch for Women was held at the Rainbow Room on Monday and was filled with our most outstanding, accomplished women celebrities such as Honorary Co-Chairs, Senator Hillary Clinton and Gloria Steinem, who was there with Paula Zahn, Susan Taylor and Kathleen Turner, all Co-Chairs. Donna Hanover, Judy Licht, Nina Zagat (of Zagat Guide), Liz Smith were among the 300 women who attended the lunch. The men who were present paid $10,000 a seat for the honor of being there. They all drew a table number from a bowl to allow for better networking. There was a lady there with whom I struck up a conversation with a nametag, Jean Harris that rang a bell in my mind. Was it really she? After speaking with her I knew I stretched my mind to the right place. A Westchester woman of notoriety who won the attention of the press in a famous trial. She paid dearly to society but has done so much good with her life that I have nothing but accolades for her. Hope you readers are following me? I invited her for an interview because I think she has a great deal to tell my viewers about the reforms she has helped make for Children of Mothers in prison. So many reforms have been made for the children as well as the mothers. It is through her efforts and the efforts of Sr. Theresa that Mothers may now keep their newborn babies for one year. A nursery has been set up for the children so that they do not have to be sent to foster homes called "My mother’s Home" so that the children when asked where they live just have to say," My Mother’s Home". .Jean Harris has a great deal to tell and I can’t wait to interview her. A very interesting afternoon, indeed.

So happy Kevin Boyle’s book is such a big success. If I can get a hold of it and review it, I would like to invite Kevin on my channel, which draws many viewers from the Far Rockaway Peninsula. Let’s set something up, Kevin. (Sorry it can’t be the "Today" show!

Mary Duignan, I wrote, is recovering and doing nicely. Neil Warringer has inquired about her though an e-mail to me. Perhaps Mary or one of her friends might give him a call and let him know.

New York City must raise revenue. The Mayor’s office has come out with suggestions of raising money for New York City such as one highly objectionable by the public, the commuter tax ,another is real estate tax and the third offensive one is raising traffic violation rates and reinstating Sunday parking in NYC.

New Jersey and Conn. have raised millions of funds through their gambling casinos. Why send New York residents to these States for gambling to make them rich when we can make up some of our deficit by building our own Gambling Casinos, which will also bring jobs not only in construction but in employment running the casinos. We have lottery tickets, we have OTB houses for horse betting, why not one arm bandits , black jack and crap tables, etc .in available casinos? Gambling is here to stay. Let’s use it for beneficial purposes.

And, let’s put one in Rockaway.

How heart breaking it is to know someone with mental illness. More than that how devastating to be faced with mental illness and have to struggle with such a torturous existence.. Though Medical science has made great strides in this area, much research is greatly needed. There is an organization called NAMI that has helped to improve the quality of life for many suffering with schizophrenia and bipolar or manic depression. CBS News Correspondent Erin Moriarity of 48 Hours and Herbert Pardes, MD , President and CEO of New York Presbyterian Hospital were guests hosts at this year’s award winning celebration that was held at the New York Palace hotel this past week.in which they honored exemplary individuals and organizations supporting people with mental illness. And their friends and families. Longtime supporter of NAMI-NYC Metro was John Rosenthal who was honored with the Special Achievement for Support and Dedication to the mental Health Community. Second award went LifeNet , the free confidential 24 hour service created in 1996. It

LifeNet provided the crucial gateway to crises counseling, support srvices and treatment options. Volunteer of the Year award went to Sandra Walters. If you would like to volunteer or offer your services in any way to this worthwhile cause or even attend one of their fabulous Gala fundraising events do give them a call.
