Broad Channel Youth Stabbed In Altercation
A 15-year-old Broad Channel youth was stabbed repeatedly in the chest on Sunday evening after an altercation at a teen party at a local restaurant.
According to police department sources, John Rich of 14 Road in Broad Channel was at the party and got into an argument with several young men from Howard Beach and Ozone Park.
For reasons that remain unclear, the young men from outside of Broad Channel got into an altercation with those from the community.
A fight reportedly ensued that spilled out onto the street and followed Rich to his home.
"He was stabbed right in front of our house," Rich’s mother, Pat Rich told The Wave on Wednesday. "It is a miracle that he is still alive."
The serrated knife used in the attack was reportedly still in Rich’s chest when he collapsed outside his home. A trail of blood reportedly went back down the street from where he was found.
Police sources say that an Ozone Park youth was arrested on Tuesday for his part of the assault. He has been identified by police as Nicholas Minucci, 17, of Ozone Park.
At least two other suspects are still being sought by detectives of the 100 Squad.
A Broad Channel resident, who asked to remain anonymous, told The Wave that some kids from the community were having a get together at the Marina at East 21 Road, nearby the Cross Bay Bridge when "three carloads of kids from Howard Beach" intruded.
An argument broke out and the Broad Channel youth was beaten and then stabbed, the person says.
"How can you laugh off something like that and say its just kids," the resident asked. "What is this world coming to?"
Local police sources told The Wave that the 100 Precinct has had other problems at that location in the past.
