Angelo William Arciere


World War II Veteran

Angelo William "Bill" Arciere was a life long resident of the Inwood community who passed away on November 2, 2002. He was 87.

Angelo was retired as the proprietor of the family owned produce store "Arciere Market," located in Inwood. He was a member of the Inwood Fire Department and the Inwood VFW. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II, completing a tour of duty in Europe.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Helen M. (nee Hagedorn).

He is survived by his sons, William A. and wife Barbara, Michael and wife Carol, David and wife Nancy, and Arthur; daughter, Claire and husband Jeffrey; brother, Samuel Arciere; 8 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.

Interment under the direction of the Meserole Funeral Home was held at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Cemetery in North Lawrence.

Carolyn C. Bracchy
Homemaker

Carolyn C. Bracchy, a former resident of the Rockaway community (55 years), passed away on November 6, 2002 at the age of 78.

Carolyn spent the majority of her life as a homemaker. She was very active in the public school system and the Parent Teachers Association.

She is preceded in death by her son-in-law, Richard Ango.

She is survived by her husband, Bruno Bracchy; children, Bruno, Jr. and wife Michele, Carolyn Ango, Joanne Sarceno and husband Scott; 6 grandchildren, Beau, Nicole and Rachel Bracchy, Richard Ango, and Kerry and Kristina Sarceno; and great-granddaughter, Raegen Bracchy.

Interment under the direction of the Meserole Funeral Home, Inc. was held at Evergreen Cemetery in Brooklyn.

Conni Leonard Crawford
Cabinetmaker

Conni Leonard Crawford, born in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, West Indies died on November 3, 2002.

Conni was employed as a cabinetmaker for many years.

She is survived by her parents, Desmond and Mercia Crawford; son, Courtney; sisters, Mary, Desreen and Stephanie; her grandmother in Jamaica; and a host of other relatives.

Interment under the direction of Jeremiah C. Gaffney Funeral Home, Inc. was held at Greenfield Cemetery.

Paul F. Farrell
Retired Police Officer

Paul F. Farrell, born in The Bronx, was a 20-year resident of the Rockaway Park community. He died on October 31, 2002.

Paul worshipped at St. Francis de Sales Church, and was a member of the American Legion Post 272. He retired from the 48th Precinct in 1980.

He is survived by his wife Carol (nee Wood) Farrell.

Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor, Inc was held at Calverton Cemetery.

Dwight Steven Guy
Taxi Owner/Driver

Dwight Steven Guy, born in Brooklyn, passed away on October 26, 2002.

Dwight was employed as a taxi owner and driver for a number of years. He was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Brooklyn.

He is preceded in death by his sister, Marie Guy; and brother, Obress A. Guy.

He is survived by his wife, Theresa; sons, Desmond, Dwight and Steven; daughters, Tiffany and Caroline; brothers, Joseph, Richard, David and Otis J.; sister, Geraldine; and a host of other relatives.

Interment under the direction of Jeremiah C. Gaffney Funeral Home, Inc. was held at Rosehill Cemetery.

Patricia A. Harding
Bookkeeper

Patricia A. Harding (nee Quirk) was a resident of Rockaway Point for more than 50 years. She died on November 6, 2002.

Patricia worshipped at St. Thomas More Church. She was employed as a bookkeeper for many years.

She is preceded in death by her son, Daniel, and sister Virginia Ionni.

She is survived by her husband, Bruce; son, Frank; daughters, Margaret Befanis and Chi-Chi Harding; and 2 grandchildren, Miranda and Daniel J. Harding.

Visitation will be held at the Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home on Friday, November 8, from 2-5 p.m. and 7-10 p.m.

A special mass will be conducted on Saturday, November 9, 9:30 a.m., at St. Thomas More Church.

Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor, Inc. will be held at Calverton Cemetery.

George J. Henry
World War II Veteran

George J. Henry, a 30-year resident of Far Rockaway, coming from Woodside, New York, passed away on November 1, 2002.

George worshipped at St. Camillus Church. He was employed as a Dairy Manager. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy during World War II.

He is preceded in death by his sister, Veronica Kennedy.

He is survived by his wife, Irene Krause Henry; sons, George, Bill, John, David and Michael; daughter, Barbara Carlin; sister, Clare Knott; 17 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.

Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor, Inc. was held at Calverton Cemetery.

Catherine M. Stellas
Loved By Many

Catherine M. Stellas, born in Ireland, was a 37-year resident of the Rockaway Park area. She died on October 30, 2002.

Catherine worshipped at St. Francis de Sales Church.

She is survived by her son, Theodore Stellas; daughters, Denise and Tracy Stellas, and Susan N. Monanan; and 2 grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were handled under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor, Inc.

Mary Eleanor Treffeisen
Poet

Mary Eleanor (Levinsky) Treffeisen, a long time member of the Rockaway community, has passed away.

Mary Eleanor was well known for her poetry and community involvement.

She is survived by her children, Robert, Valerie, Nancy and Dawn; and her grandchildren, Eric and Jennifer Hammel, and Martina Delayna Hermance.

Sister Mae Whitmire
Nurse's Aide

Sister Mae Whitmire, a resident of the Rockaway community for over 40 years, coming from Union, South Carolina, died on October 25, 2002.

Sister Mae was employed as a Nurse's Aide and was a member of the Refuge Church of Christ; the Gospel Chorus; and a Vice-President of the Floral Club.

She is preceded in death by her son, Michael; and husband, Charles Whitmire.

She is survived by her daughters, Lula, Rena and Robin; 4 grandchildren; and a host of other relatives.

Interment under the direction of Jeremiah C. Gaffney Funeral Home, Inc. was held at Rockville Cemetery.
