Disingenuous Ads?

Dear Editor;

Your October 19, 2002 Beachcomber column declares "Homes at Ocean Pointe at Bayswater are really not in Bayswater, but in Edgemere, but who cares?"

Many Bayswater residents care.

In 1960, the Board of Estimate adopted a zoning plan for the heart of Bayswater. Among other provisions, it prohibits construction of new 2 family houses, semi-attached houses or houses with more than 50% living space to area of land. Ocean Pointe homes would not be acceptable under the zoning plan.

Our Civic Association proudly and for good reason describes our community as "The Garden Spot of the Rockaways." We applaud the Ocean Pointe construction as a development with affordable housing which will greatly enhance a long neglected community.

However, people who come to Edgemere to view Ocean Pointe should not be confused into thinking they are elsewhere by being told they are at Bayswater.
