‘The Rock’ Is Ready To Roll!’
By Gary G. Toms
On Tuesday, October 29, Pastor Donald Ventura, along with several other representatives of the Lighthouse Inc. organization, announced what they consider to be "a community-wide victory for Rockaway." After battling for the last several months to launch a volunteer ambulance service, State officials have approved a program that will allow The Rock Volunteer Ambulance Corp. to provide emergency care services to those within the Rockaway peninsula.
"The community fought for this service and won. As President of Lighthouse Inc., I am honored to congratulate those responsible for this great work," said Ventura.
On August 31, a graduation ceremony was held at the Battalion Pentecostal Assembly Church, 454 Beach 67 Street, for members of the Lighthouse, Inc. Emergency Medical Training Program. The students, members of the 1st Summer Youth Medical Response Team and the Class #4 Emergency Medical Technician Program, were awarded certification from the state after completing the required courses. They will be taking part in rendering emergency medical assistance throughout the Rockaways.
An official announcement about the service, and the Lighthouse Inc. program, will be made on November 16, 6 p.m., at the "Lighthouse Inc. Dinner and Awards" gala. The function will be held at the Battalion Pentecostal Assembly, 454 Beach 67 Street.
Award recipients will include Pastor Hector Crespo (who sponsored families of the victims of Flight 587 to travel to the U.S.) and Dr. Aaron Nesoff (for his outstanding service in the field of medicine at Peninsula Hospital Center). Both men also had a pivotal role in helping to establish The Rock Volunteer Ambulance Corp.
