KeySpan Honors ‘The Faces of Breast Cancer’

KeySpan Honors ‘The Faces of Breast Cancer’

In honor of the thousands of individuals diagnosed with breast cancer each year, KeySpan hosted its Fourth Annual Faces of Breast Cancer Commemorative Tree Decorating Ceremony on October 30. Breast cancer survivors Amy Hughes, mother of Olympic Skater Sarah Hughes, and New York Yankees’ Broadcaster Suzyn Waldman shared their breast cancer journey with hundreds of men and women who came to pay tribute to all of those who’ve fought the disease. In addition, United States Senator Charles Schumer was in attendance to lend his support as well.

During this touching ceremony, the Plainview-Old Bethpage Kennedy Choir performed as breast cancer survivors, family and friends trimmed a 40-foot evergreen illuminated with pink lights and ribbons, with pictures of those affected by the illness.

"Long Islanders have a 1 in 8 chance of being diagnosed with breast cancer", said Bob Catell, chairman and CEO of KeySpan.

"We are pleased that Amy Hughes and Suzyn Waldman could join us today to inspire those going through a diagnosis of breast cancer and to also help us remember those who are no longer with us."

The Faces of Breast Cancer tree will remain lit over the next several days as a tribute to all men and women who continue to fight this dreaded disease as well as those who have lost their battle.
