Chatting With Chapey
By Dr. Geraldine M. Chapey,
Democratic District Leader
Weiner, Meeks, Smith, Pheffer, Titus, Dufficy and Thomas:
Vote For Our Strong Democratic Team
On Tuesday, November 5th, we have the opportunity to elect our Congressman, Senator, Assemblywoman and several Judges. Although the TV ads are extensive for our statewide candidates, the candidates that most directly affect our lives are the ones who serve us locally.
Please be sure to go out and vote. The Governor's race is a very important one because the number of votes cast on each line - Democrat, Republican, Independent, Right to Life, Working Family Parties, etc. will determine the place of that party on the voting machines for the next four years.
Locally it is important to re-elect our democratic team - Congressman Anthony Weiner, Congressman Gregory Meeks, Senator Malcolm Smith, Senator Ada Smith, Assemblywoman Audrey Pheffer and Michele Titus.
Congressman Anthony Weiner is an energetic and vigorous representative. He spoke at our Club meeting last week. His remarks were responsible, reasoned and sobering. He gave us insight into the situation in Israel and Iraq. Congressman Weiner is a man of action.
Congressman Gregory Meeks is a strong advocate for our democratic values. He champions housing, seniors and educational issues.
Senator Malcolm Smith and Senator Ada Smith are responsive legislators. They are serious about serving their district. They are focused on the every day issues that directly affect us. The senate represents a much larger geographic area than the assembly does. Senator Malcolm Smith and Senator Ada Smith are always ready to address our issues.
Assemblywoman Audrey Pheffer is passionate about her constituents. She serves on many committees in Albany where she advocates for education, higher education and senior issues. Her parents Alex and Ruth Fagin are a dynamic couple and always keep Audrey informed of local senior issues. Her daughter Stacey, her husband Frank Amato and Audrey's grandson Sam are the pride of her life. They are living and working here. They are part owners of Elegante Restaurant at 92-01 Rockaway Beach Blvd., where they make the best Italian recipes. (Check it out!) Audrey Pheffer and Glen Riddell vigorously work for our community.
As chairperson of the Consumer Affairs Committee, Audrey is addressing very important concerns. DA Richard Brown has strongly commended her for spearheading and passing a very strong law against identity theft.
Audrey keeps us informed through her personal appearances, her newspaper columns and her legislative bulletins.
Assemblywoman Michele Titus is the newest member of our democratic team. Prior to being elected she had worked in Albany. When she was elected she used this valuable prior experience to deliver for her constituents.
Honorable Timothy Dufficy is a candidate for Judge of the Civil Court. He has an outstanding judicial temperament. In my many conversations with him, I find that he has an excellent working knowledge of the law. He has served in the judicial system with Justice Robert Kohm, Justice Roberta Dunlop, Justice Cosmo DiTussi and Justice William Friedman. He is highly respected by his peers.
Dufficy comes from a legal family. His father was a well-known attorney in Queens. In becoming a Judge, he is following his mother who served as an outstanding Judge in the Queens Court. Ann Dufficy's legal ability was recognized by other judges who turned to her for advice.
Tim Dufficy's family supports all his efforts. His wife Mary is a very capable and compassionate person. She has genuine warmth when she reaches out to help others. Mary understands people and has a concern and empathy for them. Mary has strong family ties. In my opinion this connection with her family is of paramount importance in life. She and Tim have raised a wonderful family - their daughter Doreen and their son Tim. Doreen is a very articulate and intelligent woman who is following in the family tradition and will be going to law school this spring. Doreen Dufficy spoke on behalf of her father at our meeting. She was poised, articulate and capable in her delivery of her message. Their son Tim is a High School student. Tim also has a strong commitment to helping others. He works in the community to improve the environment.
Judge Charles Thomas is a man of intellect and has an extensive knowledge of the law. He has served with distinction as a Judge of the Civil Court and a Judge of the Supreme Court. He has an excellent combination of a capable mind and a caring heart.
Judge Thomas is strongly committed to his family. His wife Liliane Thomas is as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside. Lily always makes a fashion statement. She is both attractive and smart. Lily was an actress in France before she married Charles. She is the mother of producer/attorneys Peter and Daniel Thomas. Lily will be appearing in a comedy role in the upcoming Jennifer Lopez movie "Maid in Manhattan." Daniel and Peter are following in both their mother and fathers footsteps. They are both attorneys where they are taking their fathers lead. They are following their mother in showbiz by producing a TV show for CBS entitled "Queens Supreme." They are excited that it will be filmed in Queens. The show will combine politics, emotion, law and procedure and the various facets of a lawsuit. It is expected that the show will be case driven and not character driven. Best wishes to the Thomas' on their new venture, which will air on CBS this spring.
Please come out and vote on Tuesday, November 5th for our democratic team - including Congressman Anthony Weiner, Congressman Gregory Meeks, Senator Ada Smith, Senator Malcolm Smith, Assemblywoman Audrey Pheffer, Assemblywoman Michele Titus, Honorable Timothy Dufficy, Honorable Charles Thomas, Honorable Deccia Pineda Kirwan, Honorable Marguerite Grays, Honorable Peter Kelly and the Honorable Seymour Rotker. We need your vote. Please bring a friend to vote also.
Please plan to attend our next club meeting on Thursday, November 21, at 8:00 p.m. at the Regular Democratic Club of the Rockaways at 104-02 Rockaway Beach Boulevard, where you will hear DA Richard Brown and John McLoughlin, President of the 100th-precinct council.
Dr. Geraldine Chapey, Democratic District wishes Honorable Timothy Dufficy success in his election as a judge of the Civil Court.
