The Long Island Gulls "A" team skated onto the ice at the Abe Stark rink and were sent home on the short end of a 3-2 score, as the Stars prevailed in a very hard hitting, exciting game.
The first period saw both teams skate positionally very well, while checking at every opportunity.
With but 20 seconds to play in the period, the Stars got on the scoreboard as right wing Patrick Brown put home a wrist shot, assisted by defense man Danny Honovic.
The Stars stunned the Gulls, just 5 seconds into the middle period, with an unassisted goal.
The Gulls made it a 2-1 game midway through the period on an unassisted goal by forward Matt Zay.
With 4:06 to go in the period, Brown struck again for the Stars, as he converted a fine centering pass from his center Alex Mitic. It was a power play goal for the Coney Island boys.
The Gulls beat Stars goalie Ricky Cibrano, at the 8:42 mark of the final period, with a power play goal of their own, making it a 3-2 game. The goal was set up by Zay and completed by Frank Posillico.
Cibrano stopped 22 of 24 shots to earn the win while the Stars netted 3 of 20 shots they fired at the Gulls goalie.
The victory for the Stars was the result of some fine penalty killing work, as they allowed only 1 of 5 chances by the Gulls.
The win also gives the Stars a 7-1-1 record thus far this season.
