"Dot On Roxbury"
Dorothea M. (nee McKinley) Taphouse was a lifelong resident of the Roxbury community. She died on October 20, 2002 at the age of 87. She recently celebrated a birthday on May 5.
Dottie worshipped at St. Genevieve's Roman Catholic Church and was retired from the Fort Tilden Post Office. She was a Past Officer for the Breezy Point Golden Age Club; a member of the Roxbury Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary; and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Mayor's Committee of Roxbury. Dottie also wrote "Dot On Roxbury" for more than 10 years for The Wave newspaper. Her column also appeared in the Rockaway Point News.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Howard; and granddaughter Jennifer Haas.
Dottie is survived by her sons, Howard and wife Phyllis, Robert and wife Carole; daughters Dorothea and husband Ronnie Farrell, Janet and husband John Durante; grandchildren, Doreen Serrian, Howie, Debbie, Glen and Robert Taphouse, Jeanine Livingston, Ernie and Jeannette, Farrell, Ann-Marie Geis, John, Robert, Danny and Thomas Durante; great grandchildren, Breanna and Brandon Taphouse, Sarah Mae and Stephen Livingston, Kyle and Justine Serrian, Dean Durante and Jessica Geis; brother, Everet McKinley; sister, Lucile Wallace; sister-in-law, Betty McKinley; and extended family members, Jackie, Terry, Diane, Kevin, Robert Donohue and Clare Wayne.
Funeral arrangements were handled under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor, Inc.
A special mass was conducted at St. Genevieve's Roman Catholic Church on October 23.

Retired Construction Worker
Theodore A. Edwards, born in Altuna, Pennsylvania, was a long time resident of the Far Rockaway community. He passed away on October 23, 2002.
Theodore retired from the construction industry after many years of employment.
He is preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth (nee Ashworth).
He is survived by his children, Elizabeth Edwards, Jane Garzona, Barbara Donohue, Bruce Edwards, and Brian Edwards; grandchildren, Rigoberto, Missy, Jennifer, Adam, Theodore, Diana, Ashley, Matthew, Leanne, and Brian Anthony; and great grandchildren, Noah and Courtney.
Visitation will take place on Friday, October 25, at the Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home, from 2-5 p.m. and 7-10 p.m.
Winifred W. Beach
Con Ed Retiree
Winifred W. Beach passed away on October 20, 2002.
Winifred has retired from Con Edison after 46 years of service. She was a member of the St. Thomas More and St. Edmund Altar Rosary Society and Golden Age Society.
She is preceded in death by her husband William; and brothers, Thomas, John, Matthew, Charles and Gerard.
She is survived by her 14 nieces and nephews; and 21 great nieces and nephews.
A special mass will be conducted on Friday, October 25, 12 p.m., at St. Thomas More Church.
Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor, Inc. will be held at Greenwood Cemetery.
Khafra Amen Kamau Bey
Khafra Amen Kamau Bey, born in Chester, South Carolina, was a 25-year resident of Rockaway who passed away on October 13, 2002.
Khafra was employed as a Master Conductor for the Long Island Railroad, and was a member of the Freemasons. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Armed Forces.
He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Jean Caldwell; sons, Timothy Ward, Wendell Fitzgerald and Johnny J. Caldwell IV; daughters, (Fatima) Tracey Caldwell and Sabrina Khan; five grandchildren; and a host of others family members, as well as his Mason brothers.
Disposition under the direction of Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home, Inc. was held at Fresh Pond Cemetery.
James J. Clifford
World War II Navy Veteran
James J. Clifford died on October 22 at the age of 94.
James proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a member of the VFW; the Mayor's Committee of Roxbury; and a past member of the Board of Directors for Breezy Point Co-Op.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude (nee Corrigan); and son-in-law, John.
He is survived by his wife, Honey Holtzhauser; son, James J. Jr.; daughters, Jeannette Siniscalchi and Joan Van Voorhis; loving relatives Marion, Gail, Richard; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.
A special mass will take place on Friday, October 25, 10:30 a.m., at St. Genevieve's Church in Roxbury.
Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor, Inc. will be held at St. Charles Cemetery.
Shirley Ann Dees
Shirley Ann Dees, born in Brooklyn, died on October 15, 2002.
Shirley was a student and member of the Bethel AME Church.
She is survived by her children, Anthony, Darrell and Michelle; father, Robert Earl Hines; grandmother, Algeana Dees; sisters, Deborah and Cheryll, brothers, Aaron and Timothy; aunt, Edna Wilson; and other family members.

Terrence B. Mackey
Retired Con Ed Engineer
Terrence B. Mackey, born in County Kerry, Ireland, was a long time resident of Belle Harbor. He passed away on October 20, 2002.
Terrence retired from Con Edison after spending many years working as a power plant engineer.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Noreen Mackey.
He is survived by his granddaughters, Maurene and Patricia Mackey; and grandson, Robert Mackey.
Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor, Inc. was held at St. Johns Cemetery.
Thomas F. McNoble
World War II Veteran
Thomas F. McNoble was a resident of the Rockaway community for many years. He died on October 22, 2002.
Thomas proudly served his country as a member of the United States Armed Forces during World War II. Later, he retired from the New York City Police Department after many years of service as a detective.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor (nee Murphy).
He is survived by his children, Ellen Rupert, Honey Ryan, Theresa McKeever, Fed, Patty Herchenroder, Thomas, Steven, Mary Anne Hargadon, and Maureen Heffernan; brother, Edward; 26 grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
A special mass will be held on Friday, October 25, 10 a.m., at St. Thomas More Church.
Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor, Inc. will take place at Calverton V.A. Cemetery.

Baby Odelia Peters

Baby Odelia Peters, born in Brooklyn, was a long time resident of the Rockaways. She passed away on October 17, 2002.
She is survived by her mother, Christina McSween; father, Jarrell Peters; grandmothers, Emilia Sanchez and Gwen Peters; and grandfathers, Roy Peters and Earl McSween.
Interment under the direction of Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home, Inc. was held at Pinelawn Cemetery.
Elizabeth Royal, born in Salisbury, South Carolina, died on October 15, 2002.
Elizabeth worked as a Nurse's Aide and was a member of the Holy Ghost Tabernacle in Brooklyn. She also served as Captain of the Tenant Patrol for the New York City Housing Authority.
She is survived by her daughters, Donetta Parker, Paulette, Amy and Veronica Royal; son, Paul; 7 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives.

Deacon Robert L. Smith, Sr.
Deacon Robert Lee Smith, Sr., born in Swissvale, Pennsylvania, passed away on October 13, 2002.
Robert was employed with the MTA as a railcar cleaner and was a member of the Emanuel Temple Pentecostal Church of Brooklyn. He also served his country as member of the United States Armed Services.
He is preceded in death by his wife Dorothy.
He is survived by his wife Mary; children, Robert Jr., Denita R., Addira, Yokie, Matthew, Titus, Rachel. Octavia. Shamel, Isaac, Vanessa, Danny and Willicia; 11 grandchildren; two sons-in-law; two daughters-in-law; and other family members.
