Spooky Night Planned At Fort Tilden!

There’s some frightening special events this year on Halloween at Fort Tilden!

Gateway National Recreation Area will be hosting its annual Halloween Event on Thursday, October 31.

All the park partners and volunteers have come together for this spooky night. Some of the free scheduled activities are listed below.

There will be a scavenger hunt where you can walk along the maritime forest trail with a park ranger and discover the spooky things you may find in the back fort. Those interested should meet at Building 1 at 4 p.m. – 5:15 p.m. Flashlight necessary!

The Rockaway Theatre Company will be performing an original mildly frightening play of "The Bad Doctor" every twenty minutes beginning at 5 p.m.

There will by storytelling by Spooky Martha from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Chapel.

At Building T-149 the park rangers are going to frighten you with their Scary Market. You’ll never believe what they are selling, starting at 5:30 p.m.

Naval Sea Cadets and Vocational Kids will show you what they are growing in their Garden of Good and Evil, beginning at 5:30 p.m. You must go through T-149 first.

Rockaway Artist Alliance and Dr. Demento will be cloning in Building 1’s basement. Come walk through if you dare, from 5:30 p.m.

Rockaway Music and Arts have The Wizard doing his magic show in the Chapel, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Free candy will be given away around the event site from Chapel Friends.

This is certainly an evening out for family and friends. Please arrive on time with a flashlight. You should wear warm, comfortable clothes. If further information is needed, please call the visitor center at 718-318-4300. The center will be open throughout the night of October 31. All activities are scheduled to end by 8 p.m.
