And Profit

Nowadays, the music industry is flooded with artists on every major and independent label, who either sound like the last Platinum artist or come across as run-of-the-mill. However, every so often an artist comes along that provides a glimmer of hope for those thirsting for something new and different. The Far Rockaway area has produced such an artist, and he calls himself "Traum." Through original hip-hop beats and rap lyrics, Traum, a hardcore rapper with the mass appeal of an R&B artist, is taking the music world by storm.

Born under the name Terrence Dixon, Traum is a groundbreaking rap artist and producer, who is attempting to follow in the footsteps of hip hop greats like Dr. Dre, EPMD and other great rappers and producers. His talent and love of rap music, along with his thirst for perfection, has allowed him to rise above all the other up and coming rap artists. As a result, many in the industry are taking notice of his amazing skills.

After moving to Hollis (Queens) at a young age, Traum was influenced by artists such as Run-DMC and LL Cool J before moving to Far Rockaway (which has been affectionately dubbed "Alkatraz" by many hip-hop artists and fans in the area). He was able to perfect his hardcore, yet smooth, rhyming style after many years of performing. Eventually, he ended up moving crowds in venues all over the country, such as Razzels, Honeysuckles West, Greekfest and Daytona Bike Week, in addition to others.

One of the highpoints in his career came when Traum met "KL" of Tommy Boy Records group "Screwball" through a mutual friend while working on his debut single "Live From Hell." Since that meeting, Traum has also collaborated with labels such as Orpheus / Polydor Records. He has also done production for Wu-Tang artist "Wundah Wumen," who is featured in Stress Magazine's eighteenth issue.

Traum is also featured on the "Natural Born Killas - Vol. 1" compilation album being released by his own production label, Masta Mix Record’s, where he serves as President and CEO. Other members of the Masta Mix Records staff include: "SHA", Vice-President; John Doe, Vice-President of A&R; and "GMF", Director of A&R. The CD also features Cormega, Nashawn, HALF A MILL, Screwball, Killah Shah and many more. To date, the album has sold over 5,000 units in just two months using a network of independent distributors.

"Masta Mix Records was created out of necessity to sell market and promote without relying on the charity of a major record label to get our music to the public," said Dixon.

Masta Mix Records is about to release Traum’s highly anticipated solo debut "Mad Dreams," featuring guest appearances by Screwball, Cormega, and Nature, with production assistance from DJ Premier.

All of the production is done in Dixon’s own state of the art 48 track recording studio, which warehouses Adat and Protools digital audio systems. Masta Labs Studios, as Dixon refers to it, was built from the ground up and operates out of the Rockaway area. Traum is currently a Music Electronics Technology Major at Queens Borough Community College. Masta Labs services include everything from duplication to digital editing. Masta Labs is also a Disc Makers Studio Partner.

Recently, Traum has been meeting with local churches and the Parks
Department to start a little league basketball team for under privileged kids from ages 10-18.

"I want them to be able to compete with other little leagues in tournaments state to state with no out of pocket expense to the parents," said Traum.

The team will be called TRAUMS KIDS, and the team should be up and running by May 2003.
