Set To Perform On November 9
The opening concert of the fifty-third season of the Rockaway Symphony Orchestra will take place on Saturday, November 9 at 8 p.m. It will be held in school no. 6 at 523 Church Avenue in Woodmere.
Raffael Adler, in his thirteenth season as Music Director of the Rockaway-Five Towns Symphony Orchestra has scheduled works which are a listeners' delight.
After the rousing opening with the "Water Music" by Georg Friederich Handel, the audience will be introduced to an exceptionally gifted young pianist, Sara Okamoto. She will perform the beautiful Concerto for Piano and Orchestra, No. 21 in C major, by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. For the finale, Maestro Adler has chosen Antonin Dvorak's exciting and melodic Symphony No. 8 in G major, formerly known as No. 4.
The young, Japanese-born Sara Okamoto is active both as soloist and chamber musician. She has won prizes at numerous competitions including the Grace Welsh Prize for Piano, the Stravinski Awards and the New England Conservatory School-wide Concerto composition, among others.
Ms. Okamoto has attended and performed at Aspen Music Festival, the Banff Centre for the Arts, and is a founding member of the Mosaic Chamber Players. Raffael Adler will conduct.
