Olympics Rep Visits Rockaway

Olympics Rep Visits Rockaway

Brenda Levin, a representative of NYC 2012, the group working to bring the Olympic games to New York City will be coming to a meeting of the Rockaway Citizen’s Action Team (CAT) on Sunday, October 20. The meeting will be held at the Baxter Playhouse, 160 Beach 116 Street at 5 p.m.

Levin, the group’s Director of Community Relations, will present a slide show highlighting the venues planned for the 2012 Olympic Games should they come to New York City.

Current plans call for a marina to be built at Breezy Point to host the Olympic sailing competition.

While such sports as beach volleyball, canoeing and rowing are planned for other city venues, residents in those communities are building opposition to the plan and many locals would like to see those sports brought to Rockaway as well.

Norm Silverman, the chairperson for the Olympic Committee for the Queens Civic Congress, urges representatives from all of the Rockaway civic associations to attend, as well as local sports organizations.
