Both Assemblywoman Audrey I. Pheffer and State Senator Ada Smith have announced the "Cadet Appointment Program" for the State University of New York's Maritime College.

In recognition of the College's exemplary program and proven 100% career placement of its students, the New York State Legislature has approved an appointment program, whereby each elected official can nominate one qualified New York State student to attend the College and receive a full tuition scholarship for four years.

Applicants must be United States citizens, New York State residents and a high school graduate, or within one year of graduation from an approved high school. Additionally, they must have a grade point average at or above 90% and a combined SAT score at or above 1200.

To learn more about this unique program, high school seniors should meet with the college advisor at their school. The advisor will have the applications.

The deadline for applications is December 15. Only one candidate may be nominated every four years from each Assembly and Senatorial District and in New York.

"This is a unique program that offers students the opportunity for a full four-year scholarship at one of the finest colleges in our state," reported Assemblywoman Pheffer.
