Johnnie Lee Bennett

Nurse

Johnnie Lee Bennett, born in Macon, Georgia, was a long time resident of the Rockaway community. She passed away on August 28, 2002 at the age of 67.

Johnnie was a registered nurse at Nassau County Medical Center and was a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church.

She is survived by her sister, Verna Brewer Saunders; aunts, Dorothy Hicks, Evely Zeller, Margaret Williams and Bernice Henry; uncles, Paul Williams and Walter Brewer; nieces and nephew Tonya Douglas, Dina Condodemetraky and Ewart Kyle Saunders; godparents, Reverend and Mrs. John Snow; and many friends of the Rockaways and Nassau County.

Funeral arrangements were handled under the direction of Jeremiah C. Gaffney, Inc.

Kathleen T. Brockaway
Loved By Many

Kathleen T. Brockway (nee Kilgallen) on September 18, 2002 at age 43 years in Bozeman, Montana. Native of Belle Harbor. Devoted mother of Brittny, Kristy and Katie Brockway. Beloved daughter of John and the late Kathleen Nee Clohessy, loving sister of Mary Kilgallen, Doreen and husband Craig, Patrick and wife Helen, Brian and wife Jennie and the late John Francis. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 5, 2002 at 11 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Church, Belle Harbor.

Sidney S. Goldberg
Auto Mechanic

Sidney (Sonny) Goldberg, born in Rockaway Beach, was a 54 year resident of the Rockaway community. He died on September 17, 2002 at the age of 86.

Sidney was employed as an auto mechanic for many years.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Frances Toman and daughters Carole and Dorothy Ponczkowski.

He is survived by his sons, Ira and Frank Goldberg; son-in-law, Joseph Ponczkowski; daughters-in-law, Betty and Carol Goldberg; 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were handled under the direction of Jeremiah C. Gaffney’s Funeral Home, Inc.

Dolores M. Walsh Mills
Dearly Missed

Dolores Maria Walsh Mills, born in Jamaica, N.Y., was a 30-year resident of the Rockaway community. She passed away on September 10, 2002 in Waterloo, South Carolina at the age of 78.

She is preceded in death by her husband Rondol H. Mills.

She is survived by her son, Ronald Mills; daughters, Patricia Miller, Maureen Ambrusio, Veronica Noll, Monica Brownlee and Suzanne Hatcher; and 18 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

A private ceremony was held at the family’s home.

George V. Smith
Office Clerk

George V. Smith, born in Manhattan, was a 40-year resident of Rockaway Park, passed away on September 20, 2002.

George worked as an office clerk for the Customs Bureau and was a member of St. Camillus.

He is preceded in death by Regina Smith.

He is survived by his wife Florence Ludwig Smith and father George H. Smith.

Interment under the direction of Denis S, O’Connor, Inc. was held at St. Raymond’s Cemetery.

Hyacinth W. Williams
Nursing Director

Hyacinth W. Williams, born in Jamaica, West Indies, was a 30 year resident of Far Rockaway. She passed away on September 19, 2002.

Hyacinth was a director of nursing at Promenade Nursing Home and a member of Trinity- St. John’s Hewlett.

Hyacinth is survived by her son Dr. Keith A. Williams; sister Gloria Aarons, Josephine Allen, Mavis Steele; brother George Irving; grandchildren Morgan, Victoria and Catherine.

Interment under the direction of Denis S, O’Connor, Inc. will take place at Pinelawn Memorial Park on September 27, 2002.
