Weiner, ‘NYC Out of The Loop’

Weiner, ‘NYC Out of The Loop’

Attorney General Ashcroft issued guidelines regarding information sharing between federal agencies involved in terror investigations. Rep. Anthony Weiner, who introduced the Federal-Local Information Sharing Partnership Act, which allows federal investigators to share sensitive terror threat info with state authorities, issued the following statement:

"Getting the FBI and the CIA on the same page about terror threats is crucial, but leaving local law enforcement out of the loop is like doing a connect the dots puzzle, but with only half the dots. You only get half the picture, and if 9/11 taught us anything, it's that we have to do a whole lot better than that."

The Congressman continued by stating, "Local law enforcement is on the front lines of the war on terror. As long as antiquated barriers prevent federal authorities from sharing critical information with their local counterparts, those who live in main terror targets, like New York City, as well as those who put their lives on the line every day to protect them, will be at more risk than they deserve."
