On Tuesday, September 17, Beach Channel Drive and Beach 101 Street was the scene of an accident involving a passenger vehicle and two school buses that were parked adjacent to Beach Channel High School.

According to police reports, children were in the process of boarding the bus around 3:20 p.m., when a driver, identified as Barry Scelick, was heading northbound on Beach Channel Drive. Scelick somehow lost control of the vehicle, described by police as a 1996 Lincoln, and slammed into the rear of one school bus, which rear-ended the bus parked in front of it. Scelick was treated at the scene and later released. Ten children were transported to a local hospital, but police state that there were no serious injuries.

The buses involved in the accident were registered to Rainbow Transit (a 1987 Ford school bus) and Boro Transit (a 1998 Chevy school bus). The drivers did not suffer any serious injuries, and no charges have been filed against Scelick.
