NRA Gives Weiner An
‘F’ For Gun Control
The National Rifle Association (NRA) has set its sights on Rep. Anthony Weiner, identifying him and a handful of other legislators as among the toughest on gun control.
That's according to the September edition of the Official Journal of the National Rifle Association, which calls Weiner and seven other Democratic Members the "F-Troop", a group of "powerful" legislators who will hold the line on gun safety. For that, the NRA has given them all a grade of "F".
The journal even goes so far as to urge its readers to "circle the wagons" to prevent Weiner and the other Members from taking charge of the House.
"This is one 'F' that feels like an honor grade," said. Rep. Weiner. "I can't imagine better evidence that when it comes to gun safety, I'm on the right track."
Rep. Weiner is cosponsor of legislation to close the gun show loophole by requiring criminal background checks on all firearms transactions at gun shows, as well as legislation to increase resources for the prosecution of federal firearms offenses and requiring individuals to obtain a license from the state before purchasing a handgun or handgun ammunition.
The other Members of the NRA's "F-Troop" are House Democratic Leader Richard Gephardt (D-MO), House Democratic Whip Nanci Pelosi (D-CA, House Judiciary Committee Ranking Member John Conyers (D-MI), Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), Rep. Martin Meehan (D-MA), and Rep. Henry Waxman (D-CA).
