Hosts Handball Tournament

All players in our first handball tournament showed great sportsmanship in their games. Eliezer Cruz was successful in all of his games, as he placed 1st in the Male Singles Division. He also placed 1st in the Male Doubles Division with partner Manny Gomez. Their opponents Christopher Rosario and Carlos Pizarro played a good game, but the game ended with a final score of 21-16. This placed Christopher and Carlos as the 2nd place winners of the Male Doubles Division. Pizarro won his game against Rosario by the final score of 10-19. Pizarro went on to become the 2nd place winner of the Male Singles Division.

In the Singles (17 and under) Division, Jose Quintana beat Johnathan Perez by the score of 21-4. Luis Williams played an excellent game against Lee Mulero by beating Mulero, 21-17. In the Doubles (17 and under) Division, Rico and Ricardo Alvarenga played Jose Quintana and Guzman Mendez. The game was close at times and ended with Quintana and Mendez taking 1st place in the Doubles Division by the score of 21-13.

This was the 1st time a handball tournament was held by Ms. Coleen Bruce, the Program Coordinator at Bayswater Park. Tournament Officials Stanley Brown and Robert Lindo from the New York City Dept. of Parks' Sorrentino Recreation Center assisted Ms. Bruce. The tournament went very well and Ms. Bruce is looking forward to next year's tournament.
