George Theophilus Cockfield, born in Victoria, Guyana, was a resident of the Rockaway community for over 20 years. He passed away on August 28, 2002.
George worked as a carpenter, and was a member of God's Battalion of Prayer Church.
He is survived by his sons, Reverends Alfred, David and Paul, as well as John and George, Jr.; daughter, Sandra; in-laws and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Jane E. Curran
Loved By Many
Jane E. Curran, born in New York City, was a resident of the Broad Channel community for 58 and a half years, and a resident of Rockaway Park the last six month of her life. She died on September 5, 2002.
Jane worshipped at St. Camillus Church and was belonged to the St. Camillus Altar Rosary Society and the Golden Age Club; the St. Francis Sea Breeze Senior Club; and St. Rose of Lima's Young At Heart Senior Club.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles W.
She is survived by her daughters, Kathleen A. Curran and Noreen Inverson and husband Kenneth; sons, Edward and wife Patricia, and Charles and Deanna; 20 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Interment under the direction of Denis S, O'Connor, Inc. was held at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
Richard Emmanuel, born in Plantersville, Alabama, lived in the Rockaway area for over 25 years. He died on September 2, 2002.
Richard was a minister for many years, and he belonged to the Gethsemane Church of God in Christ.
He is survived by his mother, Lillie Mae Emmanuel; children, Linda Faye Campbell, Laverne, Cookie, Rhonda and Richard; sisters, Elizabeth Simmons and Delores Alexander; brothers, Eddie and James; in-laws; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Helen Kirksey Grassi
Helen Kirksey Grassi, a former resident of Far Rockaway, born in Taylor County, Georgia, died on September 5, 2002 at the age of 82.
Helen worked for the War Department during World War II, and went on to work for St. Joseph's Hospital. She retired as a Business Office Supervisor from Long Island Jewish Hospital.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Robert Wilderman; son and daughter-in-law, Joseph V. and Heather Grassi; and four grandchildren, Julianne Wilderman, Christine Melton, Robert Wilderman III, and Spencer Kirksey.
Interment under the direction of J.T. Morris & Son, Inc. was held at Long Island National Cemetery.
Littleton Robert Gumby
Littleton Robert Gumby, born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was a long time resident of Rockaway who died on August 27, 2002.
Littleton was employed as a laborer and served in the United States Army.
He is survived by his daughters, Linda Gumby, Littianya Prillman, Kenya Williams and Jannae Gumby; brother, William Gumby; in-laws; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other family members.

Aravela Harris, born in Henrietta, North Carolina, died on August 1, 2002.
Aravela was a homecare worker for many years. She belonged to the New Zion Baptist Church and the First Baptist Church, in Far Rockaway, as a choir member, usher board secretary, and member of the Trustees Board.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen Harris; sisters, Nellie Brook and Margaret Twitty; and a host of other family members.

Wanda Marion Matthews
Wanda Marion Matthews, born in Brooklyn, passed away on August 27, 2002.
Wanda spent her life as a homemaker.
She is survived by her sons, Kenneth Matthews and William Moore; husband, Tyrone Simon; father, Samuel Matthews; and other loving family.
