'Suspicious Package' Closes
Marine Parkway Bridge

A "suspicious Package" sitting adjacent to Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn caused police officials to close the Gil Hodges-Marine Parkway Bridge for more than an hour early on Wednesday morning.

"The fact that there was a report of a suspicious package on the anniversary of September 11 was enough for the police to make that decision to close the bridge," said Metropolitan Transportation Authority spokesperson Frank Pascual. "They didn't want any traffic in the vicinity while they were investigating."

Police sources said that the package turned out to be harmless and the bridge was reopened to traffic as soon as possible.
