BCAC Honors Clare Hanning
On Opening Night
The Broad Channel Athletic Club 2002 Football and Cheerleading season will kick off Friday night September 6th, 6 p.m. at Memorial Field on Cross Bay Boulevard.
This season, the children and members of our program will dedicate the season in memory of Claire Hanning, who recently and so suddenly passed away. Mrs. Hanning (Claire), as we all know her, was always a huge supporter of the BCAC for many years. Claire loved to be at the field watching the children play. When her children were younger, she never missed a game. When they grew older, she was still there cheering them on. When her children became parents, Claire was there at the field again, watching her grandchildren play sports for the BCAC.
Her late husband Jimmy was a charter member of the BCAC. Jimmy was also a President of the BCAC, as was her son John, who is still very active in the club. In our battle to buy the land that our fields sit on, Claire stood tall and was one of the few who stood up for the rights of the children. It is so amazing that only a few days after Claire passed away, the BCAC, after many years of battling, was given the deed to the property. We can all be happy that Claire was told of the transfer of the property before she passed away.
Claire will always be remembered as the mother of the BCAC and we are so grateful that we had her in our lives for so many years. The memories of Claire will never be forgotten and she will always be in our hearts.
So on Friday Night at the Pep Rally, with her family and all the members and children of the BCAC present, we will dedicate the 2002 Shamrock football and Cheerleading season in her memory. We will always have Claire in our thoughts and prayers.
