Pastor Celebrates Silver Anniversary

Rev. Dr. Arthur W. Davenport, Pastor of the First Church of God, Far Rockaway is being shown appreciation for serving as an inspirational leader for over 40 years.

The celebration of Pastor Davenport’s 25 years of excellence at First Church of God culminates with an entire week of celebrations. A silver anniversary banquet is planned for Friday, September 27 at 6 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom at the Long Island Marriott in Uniondale.

Under his leadership First Church of God, located at 1425 Beach Channel Drive, has grown. He has inspired his congregants to be always conscious of each member’s responsibility to God and his fellow being to touch people where they hurt.

Rev. Davenport believes in a holistic approach to ministry, and has challenged the congregation to use their gifts and talents not only in the church, but also especially in the community.

Serving as Pastor of the First Church of God, Far Rockaway since 1977, Pastor Davenport has made a continual impact on the local, state and national level. In his roles as Eastern New York General and Ministerial Assembly President, Here’s Life Greater New York Board Member, Rockaway Inwood Ministerial Coalition member, Health Advisory Board Member and State Advisory Committee Member, Pastor Davenport assists in the development of policies and strategies regarding ministry, health and socio-political community issues.

As a personal lifetime mission, he seeks to utilize his gifts of preaching, teaching and leadership to develop leaders, both within the local church and beyond. Some of the ministries at First Church of God are Day Care, Boys and Girls Rights of Passage Mentoring Program, Summer Youth Employment, Food Pantry, Career Development Counseling, Computer Training, Substance Abuse Educational and Support program.

First Church of God began appreciation services on Sunday, September 1, and continues to show appreciation every Friday night beginning September 13 at 7 p.m.
