Garden Clubs Join Rockaway
Chamber in Beautification Project
Thanks to a continuing collaboration between the Shore Garden Club of Neponsit & Belle Harbor, the Belle Harbor Garden Club and the Rockaway Chamber of Commerce, visitors and residents will have something very beautiful to welcome them as they enter Rockaway from the Marine Parkway Bridge.
Nadia Murphy, serving as both the President of the Shore Garden Club and the Chair of Civic Beautification of the Belle Harbor Garden Club, put the finishing touches on the planting of the new flower box surrounding the Chamber’s "Welcome to Rockaway" sign on Beach Channel Drive over the Labor Day weekend. The planter box was installed by the Chamber of Commerce to enhance the entrance to the Rockaways. "Successful gardens are somewhat of a challenge in that environment", explains horticulturist Nadia Murphy, "and this garden was designed with plantings which will tolerate seaside and drought conditions." "So many beautiful projects have been undertaken by the members of both the Shore Garden Club (Peggy DeMatteis, President) and the Belle Harbor Garden Club," states Liz Sulik, Executive Director of the Rockaway Chamber of Commerce. "Nearly everywhere you look, you can see their magical touch!"
