L'Shana Tova.  Happy and healthy sweet New Year to all people of the Jewish faith.  We hope this year will be better than the last year, which brought us a lot of mental anguish, grief and loss.

9/11 marks the first anniversary of the surprise, dastardly attack on the United States, which resulted in thousands of deaths, loss of loved ones, friends and neighbors. Anxiety and depression have been felt by millions. There is fear of another such attack at any given minute.

We must remember all our fallen heroes who were killed and sacrificed their lives on 9/11. To all the families who lost a loved one whether it was Fire, Police, EMS, Cantor Fitzgerald, State Department of Taxation and Finance, Windows on the World or anyone else my heart goes out to you and your families.

We all have all been touched personally. In my case I lost my best friend Stephen Lefkowitz, who served as my campaign treasurer. He worked in Two World Trade Center, 87th Floor. He was probably killed saving lives. He leaves behind his lovely wife and a 6-year-old son.

I also feel the pain and anxiety that we share, as all of us could agree, we are not looking forward to attending another memorial and the anxiety and depression that accompanies these services. May God bless you, and your family. God bless America.

On Thursday, October 10, we will hold our 15th Anniversary Annual Dinner Dance.  Dinner and live music will be presented at the Beach Club, 129 Beach 116th Street, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.  The honored are Harolyn Fritz, UFT District 27 Representative, Alphonse Catanese Jr. and Thomas Catanese, Two Brothers Construction, Timothy Keenan, Chief of Broad Channel VFD and Police Officer Daniel O'Brien, Youth Officer 100th Pct. The cost is $50 per person. A table of 12 is $600. Please make checks payable to the Good Government Regular Democratic Club. Send them to the club at 112-20 Beach Channel Drive, Rockaway Park, New York 11694. RSVP by October 1, 2002. For information call our office.

Our next Atlantic City bus trip to Trump Marina will be on Saturday, September 21. We leave at 5:30 p.m. and return at 8 a.m.  The cost is $28 with $16 returned. Several seats are still left. Come enjoy 8 hours with Uncle Lew. Call our office for reservation.

Tuesday, September 10, is primary day. We urge all enrolled Democrats to get out and vote. We are supporting the three M's, Carl McCall for governor, Dennis Mehil for Lt. governor and Bill Mulrow for state comptroller. It is very important that you do your civic duty and cast your vote. Send a message to the terrorists that we stand proud and cast our votes one day before the anniversary of the horrific tragedy that hit our country.

Carl McCall has a proven track record as state comptroller, managing the state pension funds well enough so that state retirees could get increased pensions. Dennis Mehiel, a self-made millionaire has encouraged students by personally guaranteeing them a free education through college. He would work well with Carl McCall in dealing with the $7 billion budget gap George Pataki is leaving us.

Bill Mulrow has the expertise to manage the comptroller's office with experience in the New York State Division of the Budget, the Westchester County Industrial Development Agency, the investment-banking firm of Rothschild Inc. and the Municipal Assistance Corporation for N.Y.C. among others. He has the support of State AFL-CIO President Denis Hughes, Building and construction Trades President Ed Malloy and hospital worker's union leader Dennis Rivera.

We are saddened by the loss of a well-known Rockaway resident, Claire O'Brien, who passed away after a long battle with lung cancer. She was the former president of the St. Camillus golden Age club, a member of the Seabreeze Golden Age club and an active Democrat. She solicited signatures for the Democratic petitions and worked as an inspector.

Our heart goes out to her family. We know that Claire has definitely earned her wings on earth so she will serve as an angel in God's Kingdom.
