Loved By Many

Josephine De Baun, a life long resident of the Rockaway community, passed away on August 15, 2002.

Josephine's parents established a home on Beach 81 Street, and her father opened the first barbershop in the Rockaways. She was a member of the Neponsit Home Senior Citizen Center and the St. Rose of Lima Young At Hearts Club.

She is survived by her children, Joan Walsh, Carol Grassi, and Edward De Baun; sisters, Anna Pagano and Lucy Muscillo; grandchildren, JoAnn, Danny, Tommy, Robert, Gregory, Brandon and Danielle; and great grandchildren, Danielle, Dominique, Thomas and Samantha.

Pedro Luis Roman-Caban
Dearly Missed

Pedro Luis Roman-Caban, a 20-year resident of Far Rockaway, born in Puerto Rico, died on August 20, 2002.

Pedro worshipped at St. Rose of Lima Church, and was active in the community.

He is survived by his wife, Elba; sons, Pedro Jr. and Ricardo; daughters, Edna Roman and Yesenia Diaz; brother, Miguel Roman; sisters, Lydia Roman, Nelly Rosa, Iris Roma and Naty Roman; and five grandchildren.

Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor, Inc. was held at St. Charles Cemetery.

William J. Gallagher
World War II Veteran

William J. Gallagher, a 50-year resident of Rockaway Point, coming from Brooklyn, passed away on August 16, 2002.

William worshipped at St. Thomas More Church and was a veteran of the United States Navy who served during World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Joan French Gallagher; daughters, Joan Hullah and Joyce Howard; and four grandchildren.

Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor, Inc. was held at St. Johns Cemetery.

Dennis Johnson
Taxi Dispatcher

Dennis Johnson, a life long resident of Rockaway, died on August 18, 2002 at the age of 46.

Dennis was employed with Shore Car Service as a dispatcher for 15 years.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Pat and Albert Johnson.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene Mills; son, Michael Johnson; step-children, Darlene and Luis Mills; brothers, Albert (Skip), Jimmy, and Artie Johnson; sisters, Pat (Cissy) Miley and Donna Johnson.

A special mass will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Darlene Mills, 368 Seabreeze Avenue - Roxbury, New York, 11697.

Ryan J. Rudden
Recent Graduate

Ryan J. Rudden, a lifelong resident of Belle Harbor, coming from Brooklyn, died on August 21, 2002 at the age of 17.

Ryan worshipped at St. Frances de Sales and was a recent high school graduate.

He is preceded in death by loving relatives, Nanna Kate and Poppa Ray.

He is survived by his parents, Debra Winters Rudden and Kenneth Rudden; sister, Rickielynne Rudden; brother, Russell Stiner; Poppa Ron, Poppa Pat, Nanny, Danielle, Miss Maxine; godparents, Joe Esposito and Janet Prakope; and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation will take place at the Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home on Saturday, August 24, and Sunday, August 25 from 2-5 p.m. and 7-10 p.m. on both dates.

Funeral mass will be conducted on Monday, August 26, at 9:45 a.m. at St. Frances de Sales Church.

Edward J. Schreiner
World War II Veteran

Edward J. Schreiner, born in Brooklyn, was a 50-year resident of Breezy Point who passed away on August 18, 2002.

Edward worshipped at St. Thomas More Church and was a World War II veteran of the United States Army.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Ellen Melchor.

He is survived by his brother, Michael Herbst; and granddaughter, Jessie Melchor.

Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor, Inc. was held at Calverton National Cemetery.

Thomas N. Schwenk
Vietnam Veteran

Thomas N. Schwenk, a 28-year resident of Rockaway Beach, died on August 16, 2002.

Thomas was a veteran who served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era.

He is survived by his wife, Luz Rivera Schwenk; daughter, Sonia E. Bileski; and brothers, Richard, John and Donald.

Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor, Inc. was held at Lutheran Cemetery.

Francis Edward Tolan
World War II Veteran

Francis Edward "Chick" Tolan, a long time resident of Rockaway Park, passed away on August 16, 2002.

"Chick" was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy's Submarine Fleet. Later, he worked with the New York City Police Department, from 1948 to 1976, and the Gateway National Park Service. He was also a big sports fan.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Mary Ellen and James Tolan; brothers, James and Matthew; and grandson, Sean Vincent Tolan.

He is survived by his wife, Helen (nee Zimmel); children, Patricia and Tim Tubridy, Frank and Moira Tolan, Bethann and Patrick Featherston, and James and Francine Tolan; grandchildren, James, Stacey, Tim, Catherine, Jenny, Jessie, Tricia, Tommy, Ellenoira, Francis, Sean, Martina, Shinann, Theresa, Kathleen, Kilby, Moira, Claire, Helen, Bard, Kevin, Ann and Margaret; brothers, Thomas, John and Robert; and a host of other relatives.

Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor, Inc. was held at Calverton National Cemetery.
