Making Houdini Look Like An Amateur

Making Houdini Look Like An Amateur

Over the last few months, there have been constant reports of criminals escaping while in the custody of police. Some reports noted that the prisoners were actually in a locked room, and they somehow managed to walk out of the precinct. One story noted how an escapee smiled at a front desk sergeant as he strolled out the door. Four recent escapees were categorized either as rapists, murderers or pedophiles. A majority of the escapees have been caught, but the fact that they can easily break free to possibly rape, kill, or molest someone else before they are caught is extremely frightening. Last week, a young man from Brooklyn, Curtis Goddard, allegedly jumped to his death from a building rooftop at 71-15 Beach Channel Drive. Goddard was also handcuffed while in police custody. Still, he managed to bolt from a number of police officers that surrounded him. This situation is becoming commonplace and a major embarrassment for the NYPD. The department must enact new policies and procedures to deal with criminals that are not only dangerous to the public, but also, as illustrated in the death of Curtis Goddard, a danger to themselves.
