A Special Homecoming
For Veteran DJ's
"The Bass Kings", the Wave's Associate Editor Gary G. Toms (DJ Scorpio) and his partner Joe Bonilla (DJ Bass King), have been added to the already power packed entertainment line-up for the Multi-Cultural Family Day Festival, which will take place on August 24 at Bayswater Michaelis Park in Far Rockaway.
The "Dynamic Duo of House" will open the festival by performing a special mix segment, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., which will feature underground "house" and club music from the past and present. Both Toms and Bonilla are life-long members of the Far Rockaway community who attended Far Rockaway High School. They have remixed tracks for various up and coming artists in the music industry, and they have produced seven independent dance music CD's under their company, Scorpion Productions.
"This will be a homecoming for us," said Bonilla. We have played in so many venues over the last 20 years, and it will be a real high to play for a hometown crowd. We've watched and idolized the best in the business: Tony Humphries, Timmy Regisford, David Morales, Frankie Knuckles and Masters At Work. Now, we want to show what we can do. I can't wait."
"There are a lot of "house-heads" in Rockaway, at both ends of the peninsula. We hope to bring a little bit of the Manhattan underground club sound to the festival on August 24." said Toms.
"Like the festival, our music will be about love, peace, and bringing people together, which is pretty much what house music is all about. It's the same vibe that Larry Levan helped create at the legendary "Paradise Garage." That's what we'll be shooting for, and we hope that the hundreds that are expected to attend will allow themselves to become slaves to the rhythm."
