Smith Announces New
Opportunity Fund Program
Saying that "New York State continues to come up with new ways to attract business, State Senator Malcolm A. Smith has announced that Empire State Development, the state's economic development agency, has established the Empire Opportunity Fund program.
"This program will help to bring thousands of jobs to New York State, through its support of major economic development projects. Empire State development is offering grants and loans of up to $100 million to help in these efforts," Senator Smith said.
Projects qualifying for the Empire Opportunity Fund must fall within one of three categories.
- Development of industrial facilities, business parks and incubators;
- Downtown and rural retail and commercial projects; and
- Enhancements to tourism destinations.
"As our economy continues to wind its way through difficult times, we need to give ambitious business owners every chance to succeed. The Empire Opportunity Fund will provide that opportunity," Senator Smith said.
