Ticked Off At Talamo

Ticked Off At Talamo

Ugh, I’m so angry after reading the responding comments from the 100th precinct C.O. Charles Talamo to our community I don’t know where to begin. Charles Talamo, do your job!!! What positive feedback have you received for ticketing surfers and fishermen? Never once has there been a complaint about someone surfing in God’s waters, never once has there been a complaint about someone fishing from Rockaway beaches so don’t give me a load of cow cookies. These are our waters to use for our recreational purposes.

There is not much more to this community than an ocean beach and some good, hard working, middle-class people who want to enjoy it. The complaints you claim to receive are not about surfers or fishermen, the complaints are about disrespectful, socially misaligned people who choose to commit crimes such as selling dope, robbing for crack money, and murdering for drug deals gone bad so go pick on them in their neighborhood.

Surfers and fishermen are not in that category and do not in any way decrease the quality of life for those of us who live in and visit Rockaway. It’s time that this community got together to stage a rally and stand up for our rights to use our ocean for recreational purposes. Don’t let city government take away our rights. Take away the use of the ocean and you take our freedom.

Where will our children learn to swim, surf, and fish? Where will they gain knowledge about the ocean storms, currents, and waves? Where will your next generation of lifeguards come from? I can tell you what I’m learning from this whole situation and it’s not pleasant.

I’m learning to resent the Parks and Police Dept. for taking away my God given right to use the ocean for recreational purposes and I’m learning that New York is not the greatest city in the world and that it might be time to move out to a place where government officials encourage learning about nature, the environment, respect our recreational needs, and realize that without recreation crime increases (so it looks like C.O. Charles Talamo might be getting busier).
