Surfing is Anti-Drug

Surfing is Anti-Drug

In response to the enforcement of park codes as they relate to surfing
and fishing in Rockaway, the police are cracking down on wholesome
activities that people in the area enjoy.

As a surfer, this is appalling. When so many people (especially young people) on the inlet are engaged in criminal activities, it is a bad practice to prohibit wholesome activities such as surfing and fishing. If anything these activities could be viewed as "anti-drug" activities, which should be supported and encouraged by the Rockaway community and the 100th
Precinct. After all, if a kid is addicted to surfing, he wants to keep
his body in top condition and set his alarm clock so he can catch the
dawn patrol. This doesn't allow much room for drug or alcohol use or
engaging in criminal activities.
