Disdain Again For P.S. 114?

Disdain Again For P.S. 114?

Is it so that District 27 is no longer a part of the Board of Education?

Well, it seems once again Mr. Bromme has shown his disdain for the P.S. 114 community. The word is our assistant principal Eileen King-Venezia has been sent away from the community she graciously served for two years on behalf of our school children, to be replaced once again by another who will be setting foot on our shores for the very first time. Have you seceded from the Board of Education and declared yourself Chancellor of District 27???

She is loved by all on the peninsula, not just by what some mistakenly think of as the elite of our beach, but even those who she was a voice for in Far Rockaway and Arverne. But if you did your homework you would know this. She is the daughter of Eileen King, who was well loved in the Rockaway area, a leader in her own right of the disenfranchised. Isn’t that right Lew Simon?? You knew Eileen King, Lew, quite well and her daughter has proven herself to be just a more evolved replica.

Who else but her took on the pain of middle class families of the Fire Department, and did all she could to somehow ease the pain. Did you know she worked with members of the 114 staff and had them create quilts that are now displayed throughout firehouses in the city??? My husband’s house is one of several that displays poetry written by the children of 114.

Did you know that when the Union Street firehouse took the hit it did on 9/11, she and these same staff members provided for the families, and at their own expense over 100 buttons showing the angel overlooking our husbands?? Did you also know that she and these staff members were privately escorted into Ground Zero to see for themselves what the community had suffered??? I guess not. The result of that determination was to have Chief Pfeifer and our very own Capt. Werner come to talk to the children of our brothers. Do you remember Chief Pfeifer, Mr. Bromme? You know, the firefighter who was depicted on the 9/11 documentary in March of this year. The one who arrived first at Tower 1 and who the country saw gaze at his brother for the last time, the one who gave mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to Father Judge and carried his body out along with his men. Do you have any idea what this meant to our children and us?

Well, I wish her all the best, and would like to, as many of us would, publicly thank her. So, if you might inform our community to where she was banished, we will do so. I also challenge the school board before they quietly fade away to do right by our community and take a close look at Mr. Bromme’s self-serving motives. I’m looking forward to the new school year to see if our new administrator exposes his sense of humanity on a custom license plate as well.

Oh yes, I will not hold my identity back when the Chancellor and Mayor Bloomberg receives this letter as I know I will be assured that no repercussions will be taken out on my children.

God Bless America!
