Sculpture On August 10

The Rockaway Artists Alliance, Inc., in partnership with Gateway National Recreation Area (GNRA) presents an artist's reception for Peter Lundberg in honor of his gleaming outdoor monumental sculpture, "Looking to Sea," at Fort Tilden.

The reception to meet the artist is on Saturday, August 10 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Riis Landing, on Jamaica Bay and just across the road from Fort Tilden. The free event includes live music and refreshments.

Invited by the Rockaway Artists Alliance to create this 20-foot sculpture on site alongside Jamaica Bay, Lundberg's "Looking to Sea" captures the feel and glistening beauty of its setting. Fabricated from concrete and stainless steel, the breathtaking orange, violet and pink sunsets over Jamaica Bay set "Looking to Sea" aflame. Those attending this evening reception will have the double pleasure of observing the glorious sunset and its metal and concrete echo.

A well-known sculptor, Lundberg is curator of outdoor sculpture in and around Seaside Park in Bridgeport, Connecticut and a close associate of Mark di Suvero, founder of Socrates Sculpture Park.

Concrete for "Looking to Sea" was generously donated by Quadrozzi Concrete Corporation, a local Rockaway business. The Queens Council on the Arts also offered support.
