City Chooses Rockaway

As "Night Out" Host Site

As "Night Out" Host Site

The 100th Precinct has been chosen as the Borough of Queens Host Site for this year's National Night Out Against Crime - Tuesday, August 6th. An entire "day at the beach" has been planned for the enjoyment of every Rockaway resident.

The 100th Precinct Community Council has spent the last six months organizing what has become one of the best Night Out events in years. From 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. children of all ages are invited to join Geoff Rawling of the Rockaway Artists Alliance in redecorating the Beach 117th St. lifeguard shack. Free identification photos and fingerprinting will be provided by Allstate Insurance's "SafeWise Kids" program beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Beach 116th Street. KTU 103.5 will host a beach party starting at 5:30 p.m. Free give-a-ways and lots of dance music will just be the start to a great night.

This year, Rockaway's Night Out will commence at 6:30 p.m. with a Hometown Heroes Parade starting at Beach 116th Street and Rockaway Beach Blvd. and marching down to the parking lot of the Beach Club. The Hometown Heroes Parade will honor the U.S. Armed Forces, NYPD, FDNY, EMS, and Volies. This parade will salute all uniformed and non-uniformed personnel, and their families, for their service to country and community during Sept. 11th and Nov. 12th (Flight 587).

The official Night Out ceremony begins at 7 p.m. Mayor Mike Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly are expected to join the festivities.

"The residents of Rockaway are going to really give crime and drugs a going away party," said John McLoughlin, President of the Community Council. "This year's Night Out will be an amazing event highlighting the best of our community. I applaud the 100th Precinct and the Community Council's Board of Directors for organizing such a wonderful event."

In addition to special units from the NYPD and FDNY, there will be a DJ and magician, games, rides, raffles, dancers, face painting, and temporary tattoos. A fireworks show that promises to be spectacular will commence at 9:00 p.m.

Night Out Against Crime / Fireworks 2002 is sponsored by the 100th Precinct Community Council, GreenPoint Bank, Citibank, KeySpan Energy, Metrovest Equities, North Fork Bank, Cross County Bank, Chase, Quadrozzi Concrete and Bay Fireworks.
