NAACP Starts Voter Registration

In their quest to increase African- American awareness and participation in the political process through increased voter registration, education and participation at the local, state, and federal level, the Queens Coalition of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (N.A.A.C.P.) will be kicking-off the Voter Empowerment Campaign on August 2, 2002. The location for the event will be the St. John Baptist Church, located at 74-05 Rockaway Beach Boulevard, and is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.

The Queens NAACP chapters will be represented by the following: Far Rockaway Branch-Ed Williams, President; Astoria/Long Island City Branch-Marion Jeffries, President; Corona-East Elmhurst Branch- Karen D. Blanding, President; Jamaica Branch- Jean Phelps; and Ken Cohen, President of the Northeast Queens Branch. For further information: contact Ed Williams at (917) 577-1368.
