It was Christmas in July at the Toy Center in NYC last week that brought a toy promotion preview of the latest toys to be in the stores this Fall for Christmas buying. And, why not a Christmas in July? I think by the time July comes around we are ready for another Christmas. From make-yourself, any size, any design scenic railways that speed cars around the tracks to Shoulder Action Figures, from Shocker Toys. Construction Jack, a member of the Great American Tradesmen Collection, was introduced by Rosie O'Donnell and is now flying off the shelves. Mauice Pledger's touch and feel books, Sticker Book, and New Buzy Bugs pop up series with titles, "Buzz Off, I'm Busy"; "When I'm Big" and "Home sweet Home" look like winners. Want to teach your children poetry ? Nothing better than stick on phrases and words to link together in a car or at home. Your child will be a genius when you play Flip Quiz with him for grades two to seven. It will keep your child well versed on the Natural World and the Arts

If you have friends or relatives who come to New York and like to be close to Times Square there is a new little boutique hotel that just opened called Hotel 41 on 41 Street and Broadway. Small compact comfortable rooms with reasonable prices. There is also a spacious penthouse with a terrace available upon request. And, of course you are right in the heart of New York entertainment.

Speaking of entertainment, pianist, accordionist, singer, Ernie Barry has a following that doesn't quit. Wherever he goes, (and he only goes to the finest places), his fans follow him because they love the way he sings and plays the sounds of America's favorite tunes. Ernie is now entertaining at 442 Graham Place in Williamsburg, Brooklyn at La Piazzatta, a brand new restaurant with a homey atmosphere and outdoor café.

The Sugar Bowl is filled with sweet seniors for Happy Hour, 4-7, every Friday and still as glib as always is Paul Kavanaugh tending bar and being his congenial self. The Sugar Bowl Volley Ball Tournament is set for August 11, but check for rain date. Activities going on all summer season and you can get snacks there too, such as: dogs and burgers and hot honey mustard pork sandwiches. You needn't dress. Bathing suits acceptable.

Jane Deacey was at the bar. Jane is one of our big celebs on the beach. She has been a soap star for many, mnay years. She told me Ed Deacy, her celeb husband and magnificent singer, specializing in Irish tunes, is performing at the Tap and Grill on July 28 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. On August 7, he will appear in Kennedy's for Irish Night.

A baby shower was held at Kennedy's this past week for Patricia McCarthy who expects to deliver Shannon Eileen on the first of September. Both mothers-in law were present, Patricia Puglisi and Veronica McCarthy and friends.

Last week's report on the annual Surfing Camp neglected to include the last name of the surfboard donors. Eleanor and John McNamee donated the surfboard that was raffled off. Sorry about that.

Live theatre is alive and well .on the West End of the peninsula. On Saturday night "Fiddler on the Roof " will be presented at St. Thomas More Parish Hall followed by cocktails and buffet dinnerâ026all for $25 for Golden Age members and $30 for non-members. The Rockaway Theatre Group at Fort Tilden is presenting "Pajama Game" over the weekend and that includes a matinee on Sunday. You can make both, if you like.

On Broadway, I saw "I'm Not Rapport" with Judd Hirsch and Ben Vereen and enjoyed it thoroughly. If you are a fan of Jewish humor, which I am, this play will be your cup of tea. Seniors, especially will find it greatly amusing as they relate to these two elderly gentlemen as they teeter around the stage in a setting on a bench, under a bridge, in the middle of Central Park. One white Jewish senior, Judd Hirsch, expounds and embellishes the fantasies of his life. His bench pal, Ben Vereen, so splendid in his role as the black counterpart screams at his outlandish fibs. It is funny, but at the same time heart warming. The acting was just marvelous as they fought off muggers and came to each other's defense though almost blind and hardly able to walk. Though this play is a revival, it has been revived with the two main stars of the original cast, Judd Hirsch and Ben Vereen and I would highly recommend it for a delightful evening at the Theatre on Broadway.
